October may be coming to an end, but this conversation is far from over. 💜

When we talk about domestic violence, we often think about physical abuse. But it can also be emotional, psychological, sexual, or financial. It can be manipulation, intimidation, explosive anger, or feeling like you're constantly walking on eggshells.

And it can happen to anyone. Even the people who seem strong, independent, and like they have everything figured out.

The truth is, we never really know what someone is going through behind closed doors, or what it may have taken for them to get where they are today. That's why we need to listen more, judge less, and stop expecting people to prove their pain before we take it seriously. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and at peace. And everyone deserves support, whether they're ready to share their story or not.

If you or someone you know needs support, there are people right here in Berks County ready to help.

Please take a moment to read through these slides and share them. You never know who might need to hear that they're not alone. Awareness is important. What we do with it matters even more 💜

Across Berks County, first responders show up for their neighbors every single day. Not for recognition, but because they believe in serving their communities.

Many are volunteers. All deserve our respect, appreciation, and the resources they need to do their jobs safely.

To our firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, and dispatchers: thank you for all that you do. We've got your backs, too. ❤️

Happy National First Responders Day! 🚒🚑🚓

A giant pumpkin is impressive. Watching someone turn it into art right on Penn Avenue? Even better! 🎃

The 12th Annual West Reading Tavern Pumpkin Fest is today, and Danny Kissel winner of Outrageous Pumpkins in 2020 and a two time Halloween Wars winner - is carving giant pumpkins out front and it’s pretty cool 🏴‍☠️

The Tavern has a specialty pumpkin-themed menu, too. Stop by between 12 and 11 PM to grab some grub and check it out!

87 years of history, 156 steps, and one incredible view of Berks County! 🏞️

Saturday was a chance to celebrate a landmark that’s been part of our community since 1939: The William Penn Memorial Fire Tower!

We kicked things off at the Reading Public Library’s Southeast Branch, where local historians Corrie Crupi and Mike Reinert shared the stories behind Mount Penn, the tower, and the people who helped shape this piece of Berks County history.

Then we headed up the mountain to experience it firsthand!

A big thank you to the Reading Public Library, Skyline Historians, and Pagoda-Skyline, Inc. for working to make sure it’s still here for future generations.

The Fire Tower is hosting Tower Sundays on select dates, including November 15 and December 20, from noon to 4 PM. Climb the tower, take in the views, and support the preservation of one of our most recognizable landmarks.

A well-deserved promotion and a proud moment for the West Reading Borough Police! 👏🚔

Tonight, we formally recognized Brandon Breitenstein’s promotion to Sergeant!

Technically, this was Brandon’s second swearing-in. We made it official earlier so he could get right to work, but a milestone like this deserves to be celebrated with the people who helped him get here.

And tonight, his family was part of the ceremony in a special way. His son held the Bible as he took his oath, and his wife had the honor of pinning his new badge.

These are the moments that make public service so meaningful. Behind the uniform are years of hard work, dedication, and a family that shares in it all.

Please join me in congratulating Sergeant Breitenstein on his promotion and this next chapter of service to West Reading! 💙

Three mayors walk into a diner… ☕️

Had a great lunch today with Bernville Mayor Wayne Lesher and St. Lawrence Mayor Corrine Zana at Wyomissing Restaurant & Bakery.

We spent some time catching up on what’s happening in each of our boroughs, sharing ideas, and talking about some of the challenges we all face.

One thing I’ve learned is that no community has all the answers, and there’s a lot we can learn just by sitting down and listening to one another.

Different boroughs, but we’re all working toward the same thing: making our communities better places for the people who call them home.

Really enjoyed the conversation, and hopefully the first of many lunches together! 💙
