🚨 URGENT PLANT PEST ALERT 🚨
The invasive glassy-winged sharpshooter has been found on grape plants sold at Sacramento-area Costco stores, including the Woodland location.
This pest spreads Pierce’s disease, which is fatal to grapevines and can also harm almond, citrus, and ornamental plants. It does not pose a threat to people or pets.
If you purchased grape plants from a Sacramento-area Costco on or after April 21, 2026, do not return, move, dispose of, or compost the plant.

Agricultural Commissioner Humberto Izquierdo is urging residents to take immediate precautions after the invasive glassy-winged sharpshooter was detected on grape plants sold at Sacramento area Costco stores, including the Woodland store. This leafhopper spreads Pierce’s disease, a bacterial infection that is fatal to grapevines and can also damage almond, citrus and ornamental plants, posing a significant threat to California agriculture and home gardens. The pest does not pose a threat to humans or animals.
