What Happens Next?
First, a quick thank you. More than 28,000 views and an incredible amount of encouragement, messages, shares, and support have come in since Sam announced his intention to seek election as Third Assistant Chief. Thank you for the tremendous response.
With so many people following along, we want to help explain what happens next — and who can participate.
📅 Wednesday, August 26 — Annual Meeting
📍 Location: TBD
Due to the larger crowd anticipated for this year’s Annual Meeting, the Westerly Fire District is working to secure a larger venue. We’ll share the confirmed location as soon as it becomes available.
The process begins with the election of Fire Chief. Current Second Assistant Chief Joe Fusaro Jr. has indicated his intention to seek that position.
➡️ If elected, the Second Assistant Chief position becomes vacant and an election would be held to fill it.
➡️ If current Third Assistant Chief Ed Haik is elected to that position, the Third Assistant Chief position would then become vacant.
➡️ That is the position Sam Homsi has announced his intention to seek.
Who can vote?
This is an important part of the process that many people may not realize. Eligible voters are individuals 18 or older who are either a resident or taxpayer of the Westerly Fire District. You do not have to be a member of the Fire Department to participate.
There’s a lot that can happen the evening of August 26th, and we want our community to understand what is expected to take place and, most importantly, that eligible voters have an opportunity to participate.
Your participation matters. We hope to see you on August 26.
Building on tradition. Leading forward.
