I’ve called Westfield home for 31 years, and during my time on the Township Board, I’ve been proud to help move forward work that protects both our history and our future.

• Acquiring McCullough Park and preserving open space that reflects the Westfield many of us remember
• Investing in Station 82 to create a safer, more functional environment for our first responders through strong City/Township/County/Parks/ collaboration
• Planning for growth while staying focused on fiscal responsibility, community needs, and what makes Westfield special
• Experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets
• Deep nonprofit and community leadership experience

Preserving what matters. Preparing responsibly for what comes next.

It’s Sunday evening and tonight, I’m so thankful for my quiet little farm homestead. We had chicken fajitas family dinner, chased the moon with my granddaughter Addie, colored some, chatted outside, rode the 4 wheeler, hung out in the barn, petted the barn cats, and ended with a fire.

I love this unincorporated land and all that it brings to us every day. It’s quiet and so giving. The birds and the butterflies, the bees and the frogs…they all just make it all so much better.

A strong community takes care of its people.

I’m proud to be part of the Advancing Westfield Foundation and this year’s grant cycle, awarding $499,000 to 22 nonprofit organizations serving Westfield residents.

These organizations are doing important work throughout our community, supporting children and families, seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and neighbors facing food insecurity, mental health needs, and other challenges.

One thing I’ve learned through years of serving Westfield is that local government cannot—and should not—do everything alone. Strong communities are built through partnerships between residents, nonprofits, businesses, schools, local government, and organizations willing to step in and serve.

When we support the organizations already doing this work well, those dollars reach further and our entire community benefits.

I’m proud of this investment in Westfield and even more grateful for the people who will put these funds to work serving our neighbors.

This is community taking care of community. 💜

I am pleased to announce that our Advancing Westfield Foundation has awarded $499,000 in grant funding to 22 organizations serving our Westfield community. These grants represent the heart of what the Advancing Westfield Foundation was created to do — support the organizations that are meeting real needs in our community. From youth development and mental health to food insecurity and senior support, these organizations are making a meaningful difference in the lives of Westfield residents. We are grateful for their work and proud to invest in their continued impact.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Westfield Chamber of Commerce Coffee Talk at the Westfield Washington Public Library and hear my friend Karen Radcliff share what is happening with tourism across Hamilton County.

And WOW. There is a lot happening here.

A few numbers really caught my attention:

Hamilton County Tourism generates $1.2 BILLION in visitor spending and supports more than 13,000 jobs. Even more interesting to me as someone who serves in local government: visitor spending generates $144 million in state and local taxes. According to the information Karen shared, without that visitor-generated tax revenue, each of Hamilton County’s 133,000 households would have to contribute an additional $1,082 per year to maintain current government services.

That puts “tourism” into a whole different perspective. It isn’t just about people coming here for a tournament, concert, festival or weekend away. Those visitors eat in our restaurants, stay in our hotels, shop in our businesses and spend money that directly impacts our local economy.

I also learned (or was reminded!) what an incredible resource Hamilton County Tourism has created for those of us who LIVE here. Their website has a fantastic countywide events calendar where you can see what’s happening in Westfield and throughout Hamilton County… there is so much happening in our own backyard that we don’t even know about it!

Check out the Hamilton County events calendar https://www.visithamiltoncounty.com/events/

And I loved this observation shared during Karen’s presentation from destination strategist Greg Oates, who has worked around the world: Hamilton County’s collection of beautiful Main Street communities and authentic local businesses creates an experience that is truly unique.

Sometimes it takes somebody from the outside looking in to remind us just how special this place really is.

Thanks, Karen, Hamilton County Tourism, the Westfield Chamber, and the Westfield Washington Public Library for a great morning—and for continuing to tell the story of this place we get to call home. ❤️
