Recognizing Outstanding Service to the Westfield Community

Last night, during the Westfield Police Commission meeting, fifteen Westfield Police Officers and two civilian members of our community were recognized for their exceptional acts of service and their contributions to the safety and well-being of others.

Police officers serve our community with dedication every day, often in challenging and unpredictable circumstances. While much of this work happens without public recognition, there are moments when the courage, compassion, and decisive actions of our officers and community partners deserve special acknowledgment.

The acts recognized last night reflected the breadth and significance of that service. They included long-standing commitments to community programs, disarming a suicidal individual, performing CPR and other life-saving measures on heart attack victims, and successfully reviving a three-year-old child who had nearly drowned.

The awards presented included twelve Life Saving Medals to eleven officers and one to a civilian, four Letters of Recognition to officers, and a Police Achievement Ribbon to one of the Westfield Police Department’s Mental Health Co-Responders.

Each recognition represents an act of service that made a meaningful difference in someone’s life. These honors also serve as a reminder of the professionalism, commitment, and compassion demonstrated by the members of our department and those who work alongside us in service to the community.

Congratulations to all our honorees. Police officers do not enter this profession seeking recognition or accolades. They do so to serve others. Nevertheless, it is important to acknowledge those moments when individuals go above and beyond, making an extraordinary difference when it matters most.

🚨Missing Person🚨

Timofey Gavrilyuk. A non-verbal autistic 29 year old white male. 5’8”. 150lbs. Short brown hair and bluish green eyes. Last seen wearing a black hoodie and black sweatpants. He was last seen at 7pm on 9/24 in the woods north of Service Star Industrial Way near Egleston Rd. Any information please call the Westfield Police Department at 562-5411.

Update 9/25 6:25 PM: Timofey has not been located. The ground search has been suspended until tomorrow (9/26). We will continue to actively investigate any tips or sightings. Please continue to call with any information about his whereabouts.

Update 9/26 5:45 PM: Timofey has not been located. For the past two days, the area around where he went missing from has been systematically searched utilizing all available resources including ATVs, drones, helicopters, K9s and law enforcement, fire, military and trained civilian search teams. We have followed up on every tip and lead, but have no confirmed sightings since he went missing. We do not expect to pick up the ground search until the weather clears early next week. We will continue to actively follow up on any new leads or information that comes in. Please continue to call the Westfield Police Department at (413)-562-5411 with any new information. Thank you to all the agencies who have provided resources and personnel for the search efforts.

Update 9/28 2:45 PM: Timofey has still not been located. We have continued to follow up any and all leads that have come in over the last several days. As of now, there have been NO confirmed sightings of Timofey since he went missing. We have continued with limited, targeted searches of specific areas as well. We ask that people in the area where he went missing continue to check any cameras, including trail cameras for Timofey. We would also ask people in the area to check their sheds or other outbuildings. Please continue to call with any information or sightings. The second picture posted (w/mustache) shows the exact clothing Timofey was wearing when he went missing (minus the gloves). We are planning additional searches tomorrow utilizing specialized resources. We are not seeking volunteers at this time. Thank you to all who have reached out with information.

Update 9/29 2:45 PM: Additional searches were conducted today by Westfield Police, Mass State Police, Hampden County Sheriffs and Southwick Police utilizing two different types of K9s, aerial and underwater drones and ground search teams. Any and all leads have been followed up and we still have no confirmed sightings of Timofey since he went missing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Westfield Police Department at (413)-562-5411.
The newly added photo shows the basket Timofey was carrying when he went missing.

Update 10/1 3:35 PM: Timofey is still missing. Within hours of him being reported missing, the area was being searched by officers on the ground, Westfield Police and Mass State Police K9s, drones and a helicopter from the Mass State Police. Since then, the area has been systematically and repeatedly searched by Westfield Police, Westfield Fire, Mass State Police, Hamden County Sheriffs, DCR Park Rangers, members of the Mass Air National Guard, Southwick Police, the Western Mass Technical Rescue team and several trained civilian search teams. Helicopters, ATVs, UTVs, aerial drones, underwater drones, patrol K9s, bloodhounds and cadaver dogs have all been utilized. Officers have checked surveillance cameras in the area and all tips and information have been followed up by detectives. At this time, there have been no confirmed sightings of Timofey and no leads have panned out. A trained civilian search and rescue team from Berkshire County will be operating in the area tomorrow. This will likely be the last large scale search in the original search area unless new information causes us to return. Smaller scale searches of new areas will likely continue in the coming weeks.

This investigation remains active and open. While there is currently no evidence of foul play, nothing can be ruled out until Timofey is located. We will continue to follow up any and all leads. Anyone with information is asked to the call the Westfield Police Department at (413)-562-5411. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with information and to all the agencies who have assisted in this search.

📚 Happy First Day of School from the Westfield Police Department! 🎒

Just a friendly reminder that today is the first day of school in Westfield, which means our kids will be coming and going each morning and afternoon.

Please help keep our students safe by staying vigilant, observing the posted speed limits in school zones, stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks, and stopping for school buses when their flashing red lights are activated. Most importantly, keep an eye out for our excited and energetic kids, who may not always remember all the rules of the road!

To all the kids—have a fantastic first day back! We hope you have a great school year!

And to all the moms and dads—enjoy having the house to yourselves during the day again! 😎

Stay safe, Westfield! 🚔💙
