As part of the Army Corps permit requirements for stream restoration projects, the County is required to perform various baseline monitoring prior to construction, as well as 3-5 years post construction to ensure restoration design standards continue to be met. The monitoring performed can include surveys to establish floodplain connectivity, channel and bank stability assessments, biological monitoring of aquatic life, as well as terrestrial plots to determine the percent of native vegetation. This year, monitoring is being done at Mayberry within the Double Pipe Creek Watershed, which is in year-4 post restoration, Woodsyde within the Piney Run Reservoir Watershed, which is in year-5 post restoration, and Brynwood, within the Liberty Reservoir Watershed, which is in year-2 post restoration.

Natural Disaster Reduction Day
To ensure homes remain safe for everyone, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction has selected "Resilience Starts at Home" as the theme for the 2026 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR), observed on October 13th.
Homes are where people live, sleep, and care for one another, and seek shelter and security. For many, they are central to wellbeing and stability. However, the ways homes are planned, built, financed and maintained determine whether risk is reduced or created. Click the link to learn more.

The home is both where disaster impacts are felt and the frontline of resilience-building.
