Westminster Fire Engine & Hose Company #1~Carroll County ~ Maryland

October 19, 1996 Firefighter/Fire Policeman Eugene Bauerlien had been on-duty all morning at the Westminster VFC cooking for the fire company’s pancake breakfast. At about 11 am, he took off his apron, donned his fire police attire, and headed up to the Western Maryland College campus, located on the west end of the City of Westminster, to assist with directing college homecoming traffic. Afterwards, FP Bauerlien returned to the Westminster VFC pancake breakfast to help with cleanup and suffered sudden cardiac arrest. Sadly, all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

Firefighter/Fire Policeman Eugene Bauerlien was 72 years old and had served 22.5 years.

We've started collecting toys, reaching out to local businesses, and watching our community come together for Carroll County Holiday Heroes.

Today, I want to share something we've been working on behind the scenes… OUR COMMUNITY TOY GIVEAWAY! 🎅🎁

On Saturday, December 19th, we're partnering with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office - Maryland and Westminster Fire Department to open the doors of the fire hall and give these toys right back to children in our community!

❤️ No registration. No income qualifications. No need to sign up. Just bring your children with an adult, and come enjoy a little Christmas magic! Toys will be available one per child, first come, first served, while supplies last.

We'll have Santa, cookies, hot chocolate, and hopefully LOTS of smiling faces!

And this is where we need YOUR help!

Every toy donated between now and December 19th means one more child we can help. Our goal is to collect 1,500–2,000 toys, and we'd love nothing more than to have enough for every child who walks through those doors.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Open House today the kids had a great time and many people learned about the history of the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department. A BIG thanks to the career staff from Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS of Maryland for the fire extinguisher demonstrations and assisting with the Lowe’s Kids Workshop today.

Stop by and see us today from now until 2pm. We have two of our privately owned antiques and our old canteen unit. Children can check out our firefighter challenge, fire extinguisher demonstration, and get pictures on the antiques or our current equipment. We would like to thank Guy Anderson for handcrafting our child sized ladder for the firefighter challenge.
