🚒🔥 OCTOBER IS FIRE PREVENTION MONTH 🔥🚒
October is here, and with it comes Fire Prevention Month and Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10, 2026.
This year’s theme is:
⚡🔋 “Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”
Every day, we rely on devices powered by lithium-ion batteries — cell phones, tablets, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, power tools and so much more. These devices have become such a normal part of our lives that it’s easy to forget that, when damaged, improperly charged, or misused, their batteries can create a serious fire hazard.
But Fire Prevention Month is about more than just batteries.
As firefighters, we spend a tremendous amount of time talking to children and students about fire safety. We teach them how to get out, how to call 911, why they should never play with fire, and why they need to listen when someone tells them to stop, drop and roll.
And then something happens as we grow older.
We get comfortable.
We stop checking the batteries in our smoke alarms.
We charge our phones on the bed overnight.
We use an extension cord because it’s convenient.
We leave a candle burning while we walk into another room.
We tell ourselves, “I’ve done it a hundred times and nothing has ever happened.”
Until one day, something does.
🔥 Fire doesn’t care how old you are. It doesn’t care how careful you think you’ve been. And it certainly doesn’t give you a second chance.
That’s why prevention matters.
As firefighters, we’d much rather talk to you about fire safety today than meet you on the worst day of your life.
So this October, don’t just teach fire safety to your children. Practice it yourself.
🔋 Charge lithium-ion batteries safely.
🔋 Never charge damaged or swollen batteries.
🔋 Keep charging devices off beds, couches and under blankets.
🔋 Use the proper charger and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
🔋 Keep exits clear and know two ways out of your home.
🔋 Test your smoke alarms regularly.
🔋 Make sure everyone in your household knows what to do when the alarm sounds.
Fire prevention isn’t just a week.
It isn’t just for kids.
It isn’t just a lesson we teach at school.
Fire prevention is something every one of us should practice — every single day.
From all of us who proudly serve our community, please take fire safety seriously. We want to see you at the grocery store, at church, at the ball field and around town — not because we were called to your home.
This Fire Prevention Month, Charge Into Fire Safety.
Because the best fire is the one that never starts. ❤️‍🔥🚒
