🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE BE AWARE 🚨
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn residents of a phone scam currently being reported.
Individuals are receiving phone calls from scammers claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House, informing them that they have won a brand-new vehicle. The callers then advise that a Cash on Delivery (COD) payment is required before the vehicle can be delivered.
THIS IS A SCAM!
Legitimate sweepstakes do not require winners to pay fees in order to claim their prizes.
We urge residents to use caution and remember the following:
* Do not send money or make payments to claim a prize.
* Never provide personal or financial information over the phone to unknown callers.
* Do not give out banking information, credit card numbers, or Social Security numbers.
* If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately.
If you have to pay to claim a prize, it is a scam!
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to share this information, especially with elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who may be targeted by these fraudulent calls.
If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, please contact the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office at 304-269-8251.
Stay alert, stay informed, and don’t become a victim!
