MEET CARTER G. WOODSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!

WES Mission Statement:

Carter G. Woodson Elementary School provides a rigorous Common Core-aligned curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse Pre-K to fifth-grade learners. We support our students in their development of critical thinking skills by providing hands-on learning experiences, developmentally appropriate research-based teaching practices, and small-group intervention, remediation, and enrichment, as well as varied health services in a fully accessible school building. The school, home, and community work as a team to ensure each child works to his/her full potential, both cognitively and socially. Our entire school community shares the belief that all children can and will learn.

Mr. Long's Message:

Welcome to Carter G. Woodson Elementary School! Home of the Woodson Waves! We are excited to partner with parents, staff, and the surrounding community to provide high-quality instruction and a safe and caring learning environment for the elementary scholars of Crisfield and the surrounding area. With your support, we will continue to Make Waves that exemplify quality relationship building, respect for self and others, and high academic achievement. Woodson Elementary School strives to be a safe and caring learning environment that supports relationships with students, staff, and community members.

Parent and Family Engagement Plan 2026-2027:

At Carter G. Woodson Elementary School, we believe that strong partnerships between families, students, staff, and the community are essential for every child's success. Our Family Engagement Plan was developed collaboratively with families and school staff to enhance student learning, communication, and success for all students. This plan focuses on fostering strong communication, supporting families, encouraging volunteering, promoting student learning, facilitating decision-making and advocacy, and collaborating with the community.
