Be sure to remember to vote on the referendum question on the ballot:
The Town Council passed a resolution to appropriate $4 million for the replacement of two fire apparatus for the Wethersfield Fire Department. Should this referendum be passed by the voters, the Town will be authorized to issue bonds or notes in an amount not to exceed $4 million. The appropriation may be expended for equipment, engineering and professional fees, materials, furnishings, purchase costs, legal fees, financing costs, interest expense on temporary borrowings, and other costs related to the purchase of the fire apparatus.
The proposed project seeks to accomplish the following objectives:
- Replace Truck 32, a 1997 Aerial Tower apparatus with a 100-foot ladder. Truck 32 is located at Company #3.
- Replace Rescue 23, a 2000 heavy duty Rescue Truck. Rescue 23 is located at Company #2.
- Adherence to suggested NFPA 1900 Standards. NFPA 1900 is a consolidated safety standard that directs the design, performance, and manufacturing of emergency response vehicles.
- Reduce the time that apparatus is out of service for maintenance and repair.
