Our final post of former fire stations that stand in the city - another former headquarters.

Located at 41 11th Street, just across from the new Market Street parking garage, Station 7 also served as Fire Headquarters from circa 1886 to 1931-32.
The station housed Hose Co. 7 and the fire chief’s car, which is likely the one visible in the photo.

The station closed around the time (1931-32) a new headquarters was built in the 1600 block of Eoff Street, when Stations 6, 7 and 8 were consolidated. Station 7 was then permanently taken out of service.

This week's tour of former fire stations in the city sends us to Center Wheeling.

Former Station 3, built around 1938, was located at the corner of 24th and Eoff streets in Center Wheeling. Like its twin fire station, Station 5 on Wheeling Island, it was a single-bay structure that housed Engine 3, with living quarters on the second floor.

The station closed on March 6, 1972, and was taken out of service when the department consolidated its stations.

It's the last day of Fire Prevention Week 2026. This year's theme is Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

It's Fire Prevention Week 2026. This year's theme is Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.

Today's Tip: Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.
