It’s Luke Anthony’s birthday, and that means Momma Harto is treating us to a birthday feast! Homemade meatballs, noodles and sauce, with some ambrosia for dessert. Happy birthday, Lukey!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the members of Local 668 during this difficult time.

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

Thank you, Durham, for surrounding our DFD family with care during this profoundly difficult time.

Wheeling Fire Department selling shirts to help women receive breast cancer screenings. Full story linked in comments⬇️

It’s been two years since we lost our friend and brother firefighter, Seth Burek, to cancer.

Seth’s time in the fire service was far too short, but he showed us the kind of firefighter he was becoming. He wanted to learn, respected our traditions, and understood that this job meant being part of something bigger than himself.

The difficult part of the fire service is that it never stops. The community always needs help. The trucks still roll. We make the calls and carry on the traditions.

And that’s what hurts. Seth should still be here doing all of it with us. He would have been so damn good at it.

We won’t forget you, little brother. Rest easy, Seth. We’ll take it from here.

We’ve been helping provide breast cancer screenings through our T-shirt sales for years. Our designs and marketing may have gotten better over time, but the mission remains the same: supporting breast cancer awareness and helping people in our community get the screenings they need.

Proceeds will benefit Wheeling Health Right to help fill gaps for patients who may be underinsured, age out of certain programs or earn just above the income limits for state assistance.

We’re asking that our donation specifically support mammograms and breast cancer screenings for patients who might otherwise fall through those gaps.

Grab a shirt, support a great local organization and help make potentially lifesaving screenings more accessible in our community. 🎀
