DNR Burn Restrictions

Langlade County

Fire Danger: HIGH

Burning Permit Restrictions

Due to fire weather conditions, burning is not allowed today. All DNR-issued burning permits are suspended. Burning in barrels, debris piles, and grass or wooded areas with your DNR annual burning permit is prohibited. Campfires, though strongly discouraged, are allowed if used solely for cooking or warming purposes, but please use extreme caution. Consider having small campfires in a designated fire ring or device in the evening hours to avoid burning under elevated fire conditions typically found during the day.

Our fire danger map is showing blue and yellow, but it’s not for the Brewers – it’s to show elevated fire conditions this weekend, today through Sunday, Oct. 25.

If you’re planning to head outside this weekend to enjoy the beautiful fall weather, check on the latest fire restrictions before going out. Anyone who decides to have a campfire or warming fire should maintain at least a 3-foot clearing around the fire and keep the fire small. Always keep water and a shovel handy, and keep the fire attended. When you’re finished burning, drown and stir the fire with a shovel until the fire is out. Check the ashes with the back of your hand for any warmth and repeat the wetting process until the fire is 100% out.

Improper ash disposal is another common cause of wildfires. When disposing of ashes from a stove or fireplace, foresters recommend placing them into a steel bucket or metal garbage can. The ash should only then be disposed of by spreading on bare ground, such as a tilled garden or plowed field, when cold.
ATV and other vehicle users in the forests should check around their mufflers for dry grass, leaves and pine needles. This debris can turn into a smoldering cinder, fall off on a grassy backwoods trail and start a fire.

Today is National Move Over Day. Every year, emergency responders are injured or killed while responding to roadway emergencies. Today serves as a reminder to always slow down and move over when you see emergency vehicles on the roadway (this includes tow vehicles). Every single responder has someone waiting for them to return home after each call.

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray
table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never
charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails,
it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly. For more

Yesterday we teamed up with White Lake Fire Department to bring Fire Prevention Week lessons to White Lake School 4K-6th graders. We paid a visit to the 4K classroom where students had the opportunity to see a firefighter dressed if full gear, in order to help alleviate some fears. There was also a demonstration of Ladder 1. The older grades visited the White Lake Fire Department where they had a lesson about safe charging of devices, in support of this year’s theme “Charge into Fire Safety, Safe Charging is a Superpower”. Students also took a tour of the trucks and participated in a water challenge.
