Member Monday 🚑
This week we’re highlighting Gavin!

Gavin is one of our EMTs, although a few of our firefighters have already decided he'd fit right in on the fire side. We're still working on convincing him!

Gavin joined White Marsh to help serve his community and has enjoyed getting to know and learn alongside the other members. We’re glad to have him as part of the team 💚

Get to know Gavin a little better below! 👇

1. What is your favorite thing about WMVFC?
My favorite thing about White Marsh has been getting to know so many wonderful people. Getting to work and learn alongside the other members of this station has been amazing.

2. What made you want to join WMVFC?
I wanted to help serve the community during their hardest moments. It has been an honor to learn and serve in the community.

3. If you could give one piece of advice to a new member, what would it be?
I would encourage them to come around to the station consistently. When I was a newer member, coming to the station consistently was a good way to learn lots and get to know other members.

4. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you outside of the firehouse?
I run quite a bit outside of the firehouse. One of my favorite runs was an ultramarathon I did last fall with a friend in a Delaware state park.

5. What’s something you could eat every day?
Pedie and Jim’s wonderful breakfast sandwiches!

6. Would you rather never lose another pen or never misplace your trauma shears?
I would definitely choose not to lose another pen ever again. They always seem to disappear when I need one the most.

Early this morning, at 1:23 AM, Engine 202 responded to the intersection of Pulaski Highway and Jones Road for a motor vehicle collision involving a rollover.

Crews found a vehicle on its side, thankfully, with the driver already out of the vehicle.

Some of our EMS members recently joined members of the Middle River Dive Team, Pikesville Volunteers, and BCoFD for a tour of the hyperbaric chamber at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

During the visit, we had the opportunity to see the chamber up close and learn from Harford County Medical Director Dr. Douglas Sward about the management of dive injuries, neurotrauma, carbon monoxide poisoning, and more.

A big thank you to Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue for organizing the tour and to the staff at Shock Trauma for welcoming us!

Since we’re in the middle of Fire Prevention Week, here’s a fun look back at some of the themes from over the years.

104 years of Fire Prevention Week and one goal that hasn’t changed, helping keep our communities safe.

🚨Member Monday: Meet Matt!🚨

If you've spent any time around White Marsh, chances are you know Matt doesn't have much of an off switch! Whether he's training, working on something around the station, or just talking your ear off, he brings plenty of energy to everything he does.

Matt has been with WMVFC for 3 years and currently serves as one of our Suppression Lieutenants. He's also a career firefighter in Baltimore County.

Firefighting isn't just something Matt does, it's something he genuinely loves. He takes it seriously, holds people to high standards, and puts a lot of himself into making this company better. And while he might be the first to tell you when something needs improvement, he's also the first to show up when someone needs help. He cares so much about this company and, even more importantly, the people who are part of it.

Get to know Matt a little better below! 👇

1. What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering with a fire company?
If you have thoughts of volunteering, go for it! Being a firefighter is truly the best thing in the world. It opens the door for a career, you have the opportunity to learn so many things and meet so many great people, and you get to help people when they need help the most and there’s really nothing more rewarding than that!

2. If you could give one piece of advice to a new member, what would it be?
Always learn, always train, remember why you wanted to do this. It’s a commitment. Whether you become a firefighter or EMT, they both require commitment. Learn from the experienced people around you. Strive to be the best you can be.

3. What’s your favorite type of training?
I like any training whether it’s refreshing on the basics or learning a new skill. It’s great to see everyone come together to better themselves both individually and as a company.

4. Coffee or energy drinks?
Definitely energy drinks! Not that I probably needed them as I’m hyper enough, or so I’ve been told…
