The Box Tree Moth (also known as the Boxwood Tree Moth) has been identified on properties in and close to the village of White Post. Not only can the Box Tree Moth kill boxwoods, this invasive plant pest will continue to spread rapidly throughout the state and beyond if left untreated. The state of Virginia has a rapid response control program in place through the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Specialists with the department's Office of Plant Industry Services were recently visiting properties in the village of White Post where they identified Boxwood Tree Moth activity on multiple properties. They went to as many properties as they could access and spoke to many residents. If any boxwoods on your property are identified as having Box Tree Moths (or eggs), the state is willing to treat all of the boxwoods on your property without any cost to the property owner. In order to participate in the program, you must fill out a simple form giving permission for the invasive species program members to visit your property and treat the boxwoods.

For questions or to request the application form, you can reach out to John Bransford, Invasive Species Specialist [email protected]

Let's all work together to try to control this pest and save our boxwoods!

It has come to our attention that Grace Anglican Church, located on Rt 340 near the entrance to White Post Village, has submitted a proposal and is requesting zoning variances in order to construct a very large addition to their facility and expand the adjoining parking lot.

While this structure does not fall within our historic district (which prevents the Clarke Co. Historic Preservation Commission from governing these plans), the planned changes may have a profound, permanent impact to the entrance to our village, our community, and its surrounding neighbors.

As the WPVA has a keen interest in the preservation and restoration of important community structures, we were even more disheartened to learn that the Church's expansion plans include removal of the 'Meade's School' circa late-19th century. Photo attached of current state of building showing this historical structure.

A public hearing discussing this project will be held Monday, July 27, 2026 at 10AM in the Main Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, of the Clarke Co. Government center located at 101 Chalmers Ct, Berryville VA. This session is open to the public for information and comment.

If you are unable to attend but would like to make sure your voice is heard on this matter, please email Jeremy Camp, Zoning Administrator and Senior Planner, at [email protected].
