We had a great time on Tuesday visiting Sargent Metal Works in Bradford! We got to check out their collection of antique cars and learned a lot about restoration and preservation. Thank you to Scott and his team from Sargent Metal Works, to the Hungry Bear for lunch, and to Hartford Parks & Rec for letting us use their van for this mini trip.

Just added to the November calendar! Making Connections is a workshop for people interested in helping solve transportation and mobility challenges facing older adults. In these three workshops, take a journey through time, explore age-friendly community design, town planning, share your own experiences, and dig into ideas for action.

Workshops are Thursdays, 11/5, 11/12, and 11/19 from 10:00-2:00 at Bugbee. Breakfast and lunch is provided, and it is free to sign up. Call 802-295-9068 to register.

Tomorrow (Thursday 10/15) at 1:15, join Colin Butler, Hartford School Board Member, for a special presentation and discussion at Bugbee about the Hartford School Board budget.

The legislature passed several pieces of legislation that will impact Hartford schools for years to come. Act 169 reduces the amount of funds a district can budget without penalty. It is forecast currently that this will mean a reduction in Hartford’s budget of almost $5 million next year with additional cuts in subsequent years. This means we’ll have to consider closing one or more schools and terminating upwards of 25% of district staff. Act 170 mandates that all school districts in Vermont join merger study groups to determine if a merger of neighboring districts might save money and produce better results. Hartford will be discussing merger with Windsor and Mountain Views (Woodstock).

Like getting to know some fantastic people? Like pouring coffee? We have the perfect opportunity for you. We are looking for volunteer waitstaff to help out in the dining room, both on a regular basis and as a substitute. All you need is a smile on your face, steady feet, and the ability to carry two plates – no heavy trays. We serve a salad, main course, and dessert. Come in at 11:30 and leave at 1:00 pm. This Wednesday we're ending the month with music! 🎶Join us Wed. 9/30 after lunch (appx 1:15) to hear the Evergreen Singers perform. ​Evergreen is a group of singers based in the Upper Valley. The Evergreen singers offer songs of comfort and healing to people who are ill or nearing the end of life. They sing to bring serenity and a time of peaceful harmonies. Evergreen sing at bedsides or in living areas in private homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes. Come and learn more about the Evergreen singers and hear them sing.

Conley’s Drug Store is back at Bugbee next Thursday, October 1 for the Fall Vaccine Clinic for seniors, from 9:30am to 12:30pm. All types of vaccines are being offered. Thank you all for giving staff a day to catch up on some training! We trained on some new tools to help with service and did some CPR/AED training. After a day of learning, happy hour with our colleagues from Thompson Senior Center and Grafton County Senior Citizens Council. Thank you to GCSCC and Lebanon Library for welcoming us and letting us use your meeting rooms! Appreciation to Dartmouth Health, Galley, and Unite Us for the trainings. And thank you Salt hill for giving a table to a bunch of senior center administrators.
