This past weekend, members of the Smith County Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 5300, had the honor of attending the 2026 IAFF Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Colorado Springs.

We stood alongside firefighters from across the country and Canada to honor the fallen brothers and sisters who gave their lives in service to others, as well as those who passed away from occupational illnesses contracted while on the job. This ceremony is a solemn reminder of the commitment firefighters make every day—not only to one another, but to the communities we are privileged to serve.

The names pictured on the wall belong to family members of Local 5300 members who gave their lives in the line of duty.

We are proud to stand alongside our IAFF brothers and sisters in remembrance of those fallen in the line of duty.

Members of Smith County Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 5300, traveled to Colorado Springs this week to attend the IAFF Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

This meaningful weekend and ceremony are dedicated to honoring our fallen IAFF brothers and sisters from years past, while also recognizing and supporting the families who carry on their legacy.

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to send members of Local 5300 to experience this powerful occasion, pay their respects, and represent our membership.

We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and stand alongside the families, friends, and fellow firefighters who will never forget them.

August was BUSY!

Our firefighters responded to more than 450 medical emergencies, more than 100 vehicle accidents with at least three (3) victim extrications, more than 250 fire-related incidents. Emergency calls included multiple childbirth-related calls, stabbings, a bomb-threat, and an aviation crash.

If you were watching the news last month, you know our crews spent HOURS in the heat battling wildland fires. Our teams did a great job saving structures and property.

This was in addition to attending several community events, high school football games, and sending members of SCESD 2 on TIFMAS deployments across the state.

Whew! Thank you to all of our first responders!
