Stay safe this weekend and always! 🧯
Prepare like a fire is inevitable and hopefully never have one.

While the fields may be muddy, the crops have been able to dry with the warm temperatures and sunny skies today. Warm, dry, and windy conditions are expected tomorrow, meaning fires could spread easily. Use caution while harvesting this weekend and take a fire extinguisher with you.

🚨 We interrupt the celebration of good bean yields to remind you to soil sample!
(Still living off the high of finding this five-bean pod last year 🤸‍♀️)

Turnaround right now is like lightning. You want sampling done ahead of any field work so give Katie a call or text ASAP after the combine pulls out to reserve your spot in the sampling order.

Little Sioux River Bottom Plot results are in 🌽

14 hybrids across DEKALB and Pioneer, planted April 21 and harvested October 4 near Castana. Non-irrigated Little Sioux River bottom ground with a plot average of 259.3 bu/ac.

Pretty good look at how different genetics handled the year.

We put this plot in this spring and finally got to see it come full circle yesterday. Thanks to the farmer for letting me take up some acres and put it to the test, and to Nutrien Ag Solutions Whiting for providing the DEKALB seed.

Still pretty muddy in spots, but got a chance to walk some fields today ahead of the combines. 🌽

Variability is showing up everywhere, even across soil types within the same field. Stalk rots are extremely common, along with some brittle shanks in some of the dry land corn that dried down a little too quickly.

In the beans, I’m seeing some Phomopsis seed decay here and there. I’ve also been getting a lot of calls about purple seed stain, but unless you’re growing food grade beans, I’m not worried about a little purple.

There’s no reason to panic, but there is plenty of reason to scout. Harvest order could make a difference this year.

With fertilizer prices at record highs, fertility replacement values are up there too.

If you’ve recently purchased farmland, don’t overlook the fertility value you purchased with it.

Depreciation reports available nationwide 🇺🇸

Just out here making educated guesses until the combines prove me right or humble me 🌽 😅

Nutrien meeting at Bayer’s Sac City research plots this morning 🌱🌽

Convintro will be available for the 2027 planting season! The untreated check makes the treated look substantially better, but some other pre programs are still doing a great job managing waterhemp. This new MOA will be best fit for your extreme pressure fields. It is an add on to your pre, it doesn’t replace anything you’re using now, and only works on waterhemp and Palmer amaranth. You can spray it ahead of corn and beans.
I really cannot wait to see it in whole field scenarios where waterhemp seems to be the most limiting to yields.

Vyconics are looking great with no cupping that I could see. Interested to see the yield data as these beans continue through the approval process. Hopefully have them in local plots next year!

When we said bring the family, you guys listened.
We’ll have more chairs next year! 😅

I also learned I spent way too much time on plot notes just to hear, “I don’t need to look at all that, just tell me what to plant.”

Not to be lame, but one of the best moments was at the end of the night when a farmer’s wife stopped me to say how much she loved the office. The pictures, the wall color, the decorations, all the little things. She noticed all of it, and that meant a lot.

This was kind of the kickoff to a new chapter for us, and somewhere along the way I realized how far we have come and how good it feels to just enjoy doing what we love with so many great people.

Thanks for a good night, guys.

And apparently Klaus needs to come next year 🐕
