🍳 Stand By Your Pan!

Cooking is one of the most common causes of home fires.

When you're cooking:
πŸ‘€ Stay in the kitchen.
πŸ”₯ Keep anything that can burn away from the stovetop.
🍳 Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove.
⏲️ Use a timer as a reminder.

If you leave the kitchen, turn the burner off.

A few simple habits can prevent a kitchen fire.

🏠 Every room should have two ways out.

If fire or smoke blocks your normal exit, would your family know another way out?

Create a home fire escape plan and identify:
➑️ Two ways out of every room
➑️ A safe meeting place outside
➑️ Who may need assistance
➑️ Who will call 911

Practice your plan before you ever need it.

🚨 Smoke alarms don't last forever!

Did you know most smoke alarms should be replaced 10 years after their manufacture date?

Take one down today and check the date printed on the back.

If it's 10 years old, or you can't determine its age, it's time to replace it.

Working smoke alarms save lives. πŸš’

πŸ”‹ Charge Into Fire Safety!

Phones, tablets, laptops, e-bikes, power tools, and many other devices use lithium-ion batteries.

Help reduce the risk of a battery fire:
βœ… Use the charger designed for your device.
βœ… Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, leaking, unusually hot, or producing an unusual odor.
βœ… Keep batteries away from anything that can burn.
βœ… Never throw lithium-ion batteries in household trash.

Charge smart. Charge safely. πŸš’

πŸ”₯ Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10!

Fire safety starts at home. Take a few minutes this week to check your smoke alarms, review your family’s escape plan, and talk with everyone in your household about what to do if a fire occurs.

A little preparation today can make a big difference during an emergency.

Stay safe, Whitman! πŸš’
