🏡🏡When we talk about how the bond could affect property taxes, we use the median Wichita home value — just over $200,000 — as our common example. 🏡🏡

‼️Question 1 asks voters to approve $407.1 million in bonds. If this passes, the tax rate stays exactly where it is today. Homeowners would not see any increase in what they currently pay, unless their property valuation increases.

‼️Question 2 asks voters to approve $207.9 million in bonds. If this passes, the property tax rate would increase, adding about $50 a year — just $4.16 a month — for the owner of a $200,000 home compared to what they're paying now.

👂We've heard from the community throughout this process, and $50 a year is a threshold that a majority of Wichitans have told us they'd support.

A special shoutout goes to L’Ouverture’s very own Behavior Interventionist, Anette Charboneau! 🎉 Her patience, compassion, and unwavering support make a difference in the lives of our Roadrunners every day. We are grateful for the positive impact she has on our students, staff, and school community.

Today, 1st grade staff proudly wore their "Who Gonna Call? Charboneau!" shirts to show our appreciation for all she does.

Guest Speaker Spotlight 🎨

On Oct 12th, our students had the opportunity to hear from Marco Hernandez during Art class. Marco is an artist, Assistant Teaching Professor of Print Media, and Foundations Coordinator at Wichita State University's School of Art, Design and Creative Industries. Marco was also honored as the 2025 Kansas Board of Regents Faculty of the Year.

Marco shared how growing up in Mexico and later immigrating to the United States shaped both his life and his artistic style. He credited his older brother's comic book drawings as one of his first inspirations to become an artist.

His advice to students:
"Talent is not something that you're born with. As long as you put a lot of effort into it, you can become really good at it."

Thank you, Marco, for inspiring our students to believe in the power of hard work, perseverance, and creativity!

El 12 de octubre, nuestros estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de escuchar a Marco Hernández durante la clase de Arte. Marco es artista, Profesor Asistente de Medios Impresos y Coordinador de Fundamentos en la Escuela de Arte, Diseño e Industrias Creativas de la Universidad Estatal de Wichita (WSU). También fue reconocido en 2025 como Profesor del Año por la Junta de Regentes de Kansas.

Marco compartió cómo crecer en México y depues emigrar a los Estados Unidos influyó tanto en su vida como en su estilo artístico. También mencionó que una de sus primeras inspiraciones fue su hermano mayor, quien dibujaba historietas y despertó en él el interés por el arte.

Su consejo para nuestros estudiantes fue:
“El talento no es algo con lo que se nace. Siempre y cuando le dediques mucho esfuerzo, puedes llegar a ser realmente bueno en ello.”

¡Gracias, Marco, por inspirar a nuestros estudiantes a creer en el poder del esfuerzo, la perseverancia y la creatividad!

Math in action! ➕➖➗✖️🟰

Our 4th graders have been hard at work in Mrs. Washington’s class!

Students explored finding factors and square numbers using arrays, while also strengthening their fraction skills.

We love seeing our learners use different strategies to deepen their mathematical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Great job, 4th grade!
