The Wichita Police Department recently hosted the open house for our Fall 2026 Recruit Academy Class. Recruits and their families had the opportunity to hear welcoming remarks from Chief Joe Sullivan and Captain Lemons as they begin their story with the department.

Several of our specialty units were also on hand to showcase the equipment, resources, and career opportunities available within the Wichita Police Department, giving recruits and their families a firsthand look at the many ways our officers serve the Wichita community.

Congratulations to our Fall 2026 recruits. We wish you the very best as you begin the academy and take the first step toward a rewarding career in public service. Stay safe, work hard, and welcome to the Wichita Police Department family.

This morning, Deputy Chief East, Captain Lemons, and Officer Peppered spoke with the Wichita Police Department’s newest officers, who graduated yesterday.

Officer Peppered shared a few more words of encouragement and congratulated them as they begin the next phase of training.

Deputy Chief East asked them to hold onto their “why.”
Why they chose this job.
And what will keep them grounded when it gets hard.

Captain Lemons reminded them they took an oath to uphold the Constitution. And he told them to carry it as a daily reminder.

Then Deputy Cheif East, Captain Lemons and Officer Peppered handed each new officer two items they can carry every day.

A bracelet to keep their “why” close.

And a copy of the United States Constitution.
