Many individuals include Wichita Children’s Home in their estate plans through tax-smart gifts. Planned gifts can help secure your family’s future, meet your financial goals, and create a lasting impact for children and youth.

You can support Kidzcope and its ongoing mission to provide no-fee, peer-based bereavement services, or designate your gift to our Building Hope Campaign to help create the new Center for Children’s Healing, the future home of Kidzcope. Your legacy can help ensure that no child has to grieve alone. For more information, please visit our website:

This week is National Estate Planning Week. We invite you to consider the lasting impact you could make by remembering the Wichita Children’s Home in your estate plans. You can support Kidzcope and its ongoing mission to provide no-fee, peer-based bereavement services to children and youth who have experienced the death of a loved one, or designate your gift to our Building Hope Campaign to help create the new Center for Children’s Healing, which will become the future home of Kidzcope.

However you choose to give, your legacy can help ensure children have a place to find support, connection, and healing for years to come. For more information, please visit our website:

October is filled with ghosts, skeletons, cemeteries, and other images of death. For a child who has recently experienced the death of someone they love, these images can bring up difficult feelings, fears, or questions. Halloween might feel very different this year.

They don’t have to participate in everything, and they don't have to pretend they aren't struggling. Let them know it's OK to talk about what they're feeling, and remind them you're there to listen.

Parent-teacher conferences can be challenging after a parent’s death, often bringing up feelings of sadness and loss. You and your child may feel overwhelmed or unsure how to handle it. Remember, it’s okay to take things one step at a time and ask for support.

This October, try filling a pumpkin with memories.

Find a plastic pumpkin and tuck little notes inside, each holding a memory of someone you love who died. Write down a favorite memory, something that made you laugh, a special tradition, or simply something you miss about them. Add more memories throughout the month and read them whenever you need a reminder of the person who will always be part of your story.

Try This Grounding Exercise for October!

When feelings feel big, use your five senses to slow down, ground yourself, and focus on the present moment. Take a slow breath and remind yourself: “I am here. I am safe. I can take it one moment at a time.”
