What is a bond?
• A bond is similar to how a family might take out a mortgage to buy or renovate a home. A bond is how school districts in Kansas pay for major building and facility projects, as the district’s capital budget is intended to cover smaller repairs and predictive and preventative maintenance.
• In Kansas, a school bond must be approved by voters. If approved, the district repays the bond over time using local property taxes.
• A bond is used for long-term investments in buildings and infrastructure. It can’t be used for day-to-day school expenses such as paying teacher salaries or other operational expenses.

Next week's Storm Forecast is live! Tickets for the Halloween Dance, which will take place Friday, October 30, will be on sale all week during lunch. The next cross-country meet will be Tuesday after school at 3:30 pm at Brown Thrush Park. On Wednesday during 6th period, representatives of the International Baccalaureate program at East High School will be at Stucky to talk to interested 8th grade students in the library. On Thursday the Explo Store will be open during lunch and there are orchestra and band concerts after school at 6 pm and 7 pm respectively. Friday Northeast Magnet High School will visit with interested 8th grade students during 4th period in the auditorium. It will be a busy 5-day week of learning!

We are one of the 10 WPS middle schools that have a gymnasium without air conditioning. Passing the WPS bond would provide the funds to add air conditioning here at Stucky.

The WPS bond issue is divided into two questions. Voters have the option to choose Question 1, or Question 1 and Question 2. Question 1 needs to pass for Question 2 to pass.

📌 If Question 1 passes, the tax rate would remain the same. A homeowner would not see an increase to what they currently pay, unless their property valuation increases.
📌 If Question 2 passes, the tax rate would increase with an anticipated impact of an additional $50 a year ($4.16 a month) for the owner of a $200,000 home compared to what is being paid today.
The district recommended a bond referendum based on school and community feedback.

Apologies for the late release, but the Storm Forecast is now live! It's a busy, but short week. Today-Thursday are Parent-Teacher Conferences. Tonight & Wednesday night parents can meet with their students' teachers from 3:30-7:00 pm. On Thursday, conferences will take place during the day from 8:00 am-noon and 1:00-3:00 pm. Staff will take its lunch break from noon-1:00 pm.
During conferences, the Scholastic Book Fair will be set up outside the library. Tuesday night, all parents are invited to the Site Council meeting in the Stucky auditorium at 6 pm. Wednesday after school the cross-country athletes will compete at the Cessna Activity Center starting at 3:30 pm. Students do not have school on Thursday due to conferences and Friday due to a teacher work day. Enjoy the four-day weekend, Stucky families!
