There are times when the right words matter. And there are times when even the right words simply can't seem to say enough.
As we all grieve the tragedy at Stryker on Saturday, my heart goes out to the Wichita community, the McPherson community and the soccer community. There is grief but also a gentle reminder that we are stronger together. Tonight I saw tears. Tonight I saw strength. Tonight I saw resiliency. Tonight I saw unity. Unity in healing...together.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Vigil. I am so grateful for the Stryker team who organized the much-needed event for the first steps in that healing.
Thank you to our Wichita Police Department and Wichita Fire Department who were there to provide comfort and safety. It was noticed and appreciated. And thank you not only for your attendance this evening, but handling this tragedy with patience and precision.
Thank you to the Sedgwick County Government COMCARE team who were on site in case anyone needed support and guidance through the grief process. Anyone needing emotional support can call or text 988. Just like any healing process, help from professionals is essential.
My thoughts and prayers go to every person and family impacted, especially those grieving loss and the road to recovery from injuries. The journey will be long, but you will never be alone. I don't have the right words to share, because I understand there are none. But please know that you are in my thoughts, prayers, and heart.
