It’s been an exceptionally busy stretch for us lately, jumping from emergency calls straight into supporting wonderful community outreach events. Knowing that a local business appreciates the hard work our team puts in every day means the world to us.

As we welcome the fall season and prepare to turn our clocks back one hour this weekend, we want to remind our community to take a few extra minutes for something that could save a life.

Daylight saving time is a great reminder to:

🍁 Test your smoke alarms to make sure they're working properly.

🍁 Replace batteries when needed and follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

🍁 Check your flashlights and other emergency supplies.

🍁 Make sure everyone in your household knows what to do if a smoke alarm sounds.

Our Sumter County Fire & EMS crews are proud to serve this community, and helping you stay safe is just as important as responding to emergencies.

That’s a Wrap on Fire Prevention Month! 🔥🚒

October was filled with so many fun opportunities to connect, educate, and help our community stay safe!

Throughout Fire Prevention Month, Sumter County Fire & EMS crews visited local elementary schools, churches, libraries, and other organizations to share important fire safety lessons with residents of all ages. Most recently, our crews visited Sumter Public Library’s branches in Wildwood and Sumterville and Wildwood Intermediate School. We had a blast getting to interact with children and families at these events.

This year's theme focused on charging safety, highlighting the importance of safely charging everyday devices, including cellphones, tablets, laptops, and electric scooters. From understanding the risks of lithium-ion batteries to practicing safe charging habits, these conversations helped build safer homes and communities.

We want to extend a special thank you to our local community partners who welcomed our crews and helped make this month a success!

For our firefighters, these visits are more than an opportunity to teach fire safety. They're a chance to build relationships, connect with the community we proudly serve, and share lifesaving knowledge that can make a difference. Our crews truly enjoy these interactions, and it's an honor to help educate and inspire the next generation.

Fire safety is a year-round commitment. Let's keep the conversation going!

When an emergency happens, it takes a team of dedicated professionals working together to answer the call.

From the calm voices in our Emergency Communications Centers to the boots on the ground responding to emergencies, our first responders work around the clock to protect the lives and safety of our community.

On National First Responders Day, we recognize the dedication, courage, and commitment of Sumter County Fire & EMS and our Emergency Communications Center, along with our public safety partners at The Villages Public Safety Department, Sumter County Sheriff's Office, and Wildwood Police Department.

Whether answering the call, dispatching help, providing lifesaving care, or responding to an emergency, each plays an important role in keeping Sumter County safe.

HAVE A SAFE AND SPOOKY HALLOWEEN! 👻

Before you and your little ghosts and goblins head out for trick-or-treating, Sumter County Fire & EMS wants to help you keep them safe while they enjoy a night of Halloween fun!

🦺 Stay visible: Choose bright costumes, add reflective tape, and bring flashlights or glow sticks.

🚸 Stay close: Accompany young children and keep your group together while trick-or-treating.

🚗 Watch for traffic: Use crosswalks, look both ways, and never dart between parked cars.

🍬 Inspect their treats: Check candy and packaging before letting little ones dig into their Halloween haul.

🔥 Choose safe costumes: Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls, and keep them away from candles and open flames.

📱 Have a plan: Establish a route, set a return time for older children, and make sure they know how to contact you in an emergency.

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping Halloween fun for the whole family!
