On this day in 1906, 120 years ago, the Pennsylvania Capitol was dedicated, and President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed it the "handsomest" state capitol he had ever seen.

Inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, nothing between Philly and Pittsburgh topped the capitol's 52 million-pound dome for 80 years.

The ceremony drew thousands of people who stood in the rainy weather to celebrate our new capitol!

I attended a September 22nd public meeting in Plains Township about proposed zoning amendments to establish a Technology/Energy District overlay near the Pennsylvania Turnpike/West Minister Road off Jumper Road. The meeting drew approximately 100 residents who shared concerns about potential impacts on their homes, property values, the environment, public health, noise, and utility costs.

During discussions, I emphasized the importance of approaching data center development responsibly, with adequate information and safeguards in place to protect residents and surrounding communities. I noted that many questions remain about the potential effects of these facilities, particularly their substantial energy and water demands, and stressed that “not all the information is out there.”

I also highlighted the need to ensure that residents and utility customers are not left paying for infrastructure required by private development.

I outlined three bills that have passed the House and are awaiting action in the Senate: House Bill 1834(Matzie), which addresses commercial data center regulations, energy requirements, and consumer protections; House Bill 2150(Mullins), which would require annual reporting of data centers’ energy and water consumption; and House Bill 2151(Donahue), which would provide municipalities with a model zoning ordinance to help guide local decisions.

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

The Fellowship Program is based in Pennsylvania’s magnificent Capitol Building in Harrisburg. Fellows are assigned to work in House standing committees or House leadership offices and are compensated for their work, which may also include college credit.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼:
• Draft and present their own legislation;
• Meet with public officials and legislative staff;
• Tour historic public spaces throughout the Commonwealth; and
• Gain firsthand experience working in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Qualified applicants must:
• Be a college undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or law school student;
• Be enrolled in a Pennsylvania college or university, or be a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an out-of-state institution; and
• Be pursuing any major with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

These grants represent an investment in the future of the District. On September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent people who lost their lives, the first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away, and the families and communities forever changed by that terrible day.

We remember the courage of the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, medical professionals, military personnel, and ordinary Americans who answered the call to help.

Here in Pennsylvania, we especially remember the 40 passengers and crew members of United Airlines Flight 93 who fought back against the hijackers and prevented the plane from reaching its intended target. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏.

Twenty-five years have passed, but the lessons of September 11 remain with us: we are stronger when we stand together, we are called to care for one another, and we must never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, I am proud to announce that Kinsey Harris, a resident of 121st district and student at Wilkes-Barre Area High School, has been selected to represent our district in Philadelphia at America250PA's Civic Learning Initiative as the Pennsylvania House of Representatives convene a historic Legislative Session at Congress Hall.

While America marked its Semiquincentennial milestone on July 4th, Pennsylvania’s recognition of our 250th anniversary continues as we turn our focus toward the future. We aren't just reflecting on our founding history — we are passing the torch of civic duty to the leaders who will write our next chapter.

Kinsey represents the energy, vision, and promise of our community, and I am thrilled to have them represent us on this historic day.
