🛏️ SOFT SURFACE? HARD PASS.

Where you charge your device matters! Charge devices on a hard, flat surface. Soft surfaces like beds, couches, or blankets can trap heat and block airflow around the device.

So when it's time to charge:
✔️ Hard surface
✔️ Flat surface
✔️ Good airflow
🚫 Not the bed.
🚫 Not the couch.
🚫 Not under a blanket.

Small action. Big impact. For more info: fpw.org.

✈️ TRAVELING WITH YOUR DEVICES? KEEP THEM IN SIGHT.

Heading somewhere? Don't forget that charging safety matters while you're traveling, too. When charging a device on a flight, keep it where you can see it.

And remember:
🚫 Don't charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a flight.
👀 Keep charging devices in sight.
🔥 If a device becomes hot, swollen, starts smoking, or has an unusual smell, notify a flight attendant immediately.

A little awareness can go a long way, whether you're at home or on the go. For more info: fpw.org.

🔋 FULLY CHARGED? TIME TO UNPLUG.

It's easy to plug in your phone, tablet, power tool, or other device and forget about it.
But once it's fully charged, unplug it.

Leaving devices plugged in can create additional heat and stress on the battery.

So when you see that 100%, that's your reminder:
🔌 Unplug it.

One small habit can make a big difference. For more info: fpw.org.

🔥 FEELS HOT? STOP USING IT.

Pay attention to the warning signs.
If a device or battery becomes very hot, swells, smells strange, leaks, smokes, pops, or hisses, stop using it.

Don't ignore something that doesn't seem right. Your device may be trying to tell you that something is wrong. Taking action early can help prevent a much more serious situation.

If you see something unusual, stop using the device and move away from it. For more info: fpw.org.

Stay alert. Stay safe. 💚

🚒❤️ WELCOME HOME, ENGINE 9! ❤️🚒

On October 3rd, the Williams Fire Department proudly welcomed our new Engine 9 home with a special Push-In Ceremony.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate this exciting milestone with us, and to our community for the continued support, encouragement, and trust you show our firefighters.

A new engine is more than just a piece of equipment, it represents our community’s commitment to keeping Williams safe and ensuring our firefighters have the tools they need to serve when called upon.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day special, from those who attended and shared in the celebration to those who supported this project along the way. We are proud to serve Williams, and we are excited to put Engine 9 to work protecting our community.

Here’s to many years of service ahead!

📢 CITY OF WILLIAMS COMMUNITY NOTICE

The City of Williams would like to make residents and visitors aware of two temporary service issues:

📞 PHONE & INTERNET INTERRUPTIONS
City Hall’s phone and internet services are currently experiencing intermittent interruptions. If you are trying to call to pay utilities, ask questions, or reach one of our departments, you may have difficulty getting through.

💧 TEMPORARY WATER DISCOLORATION
Water hydrant flushing is also taking place throughout the community. This may cause temporary discoloration of your water. While the discoloration can be concerning, it is a temporary result of the flushing process.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these issues are being addressed, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you, Williams! 🧡

⚡ CHEAP CHARGER? DON'T CHANCE IT.

When it comes to charging your devices, the cheapest option isn't always the safest.

Use the charger provided by the manufacturer or one that has been approved for your device. Cheap or off-brand chargers may not meet the appropriate safety standards. A few extra dollars isn't worth taking a chance with your home, your family, or your community. For more info: fpw.org.

🔌 Use the right charger. Charge safely.

Small action. Big impact.

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK STARTS TODAY! 🔥

The Williams Fire Department is teaming up with The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week™, October 4 -10th, Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.

Help us spread the word that everyday actions can help prevent lithium-ion battery
fires. Use your charging superpower by making smart choices every
time you plug in.

🔋 For tools and rides, charge outside when possible.
E-bikes, scooters, power tools, and other devices with larger batteries can store a lot of energy. Charging them outside, when possible, can help keep a potential fire away from your home.

And remember, never block an exit or escape route with a charging device.
Small action. Big impact. 💚

Follow along with Williams Fire Department all week for more charging safety tips!
