Last Thursday, local fans of Sci-Fi literature, film, and art gathered to explore Sci-Fi's golden age in The Gallery at Penn College's exhibit honoring Pennsylvania artist Paul Lehr's role in shaping the visual elements of the genre.
Joseph W. Smith III led an interactive discussion about what Sci-Fi is, why Sci-Fi became so popular in the 1950's and 60's, and how Sci-Fi authors influenced films then and now. Throughout the lecture, he highlighted Lehr's cover art for popular Sci-Fi authors. After the presentation, guests were invited to explore the Lehr exhibit with Joseph Smith and Penny Lutz, Director of The Gallery at Penn College. Smith and Lutz offered valuable insight into the art in the exhibit, Lehr's early life and career, and why Lehr eventually made the transition from book cover art to large art pieces.
We are so grateful to Joseph Smith and The Gallery at Penn College for partnering with us to offer such an engaging and informative program. If you are interested in exploring other programs and presentations like this one, please visit our website at calendar.jvbrown.edu
