MTFD has had a busy few days helping our neighboring departments! Thursday evening Main-Transit sent a FAST (Firefighter Assist and Search Team) to a barn fire in Newstead, and while they were on their way back to the hall another FAST request came in for a fire in East Amherst's district.

Early this morning, Main-Transit sent Engine 2 and Truck 6 to assist Harris Hill with a house fire in their district.

If you can keep your cool when things get hot, MTFD has a place for you! Visit mtfd.com/join-us to learn more about our active, junior, and auxillary memberships.

Yesterday, Main-Transit’s Junior Firefighters attended Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services Junior Firefighter Day. They participated in 3 lessons: forcible entry, firefighter survival and hose line advancement. This was a great opportunity for our junior firefighters to learn some beginner firefighting techniques. 🚒

Our junior program is open to anyone ages 14-17. If this seems like something you or your child would be interested in, check out our website for more info! https://mtfd.com/join-us/ 🔥

Today just before 2pm, Main-Transit’s FAST Team responded to Snyder’s detached garage fire on Roycroft Boulevard. 🚒

For those that do not know, a FAST team stands for firefighter assist and search team. They are a dedicated group of firefighters who standby at a fire in case one of their peers becomes trapped, lost, injured, or disoriented. In that event, the FAST team would enter the house and retrieve that firefighter. Thankfully, Snyder achieved a quick knockdown on the fire and no injuries were reported. 💪🏻🔥

5 of our Main-Transit firefighters proudly took part in the 2026 Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk Buffalo, NY to honor the brave men and women who answered the call on September 11, 2001. Each of our firefighters carried the photo of a fallen hero, ensuring their legacies live on and their stories are never forgotten. 🇺🇸

Past Chief, Brad Sprague, was the 1st firefighter running in gear to pass the finish line. Chairman of the Board of Directors, Peter Frank, placed 1st with gear and a pack on. Past Chief Sprague’s daughter also placed 1st in her age group. 🏃🏻🔥

Tuesday evening, Main-Transit firefighters learned about positive pressure ventilation and horizontal venting techniques. Firefighters were split into 2 stations where they practiced using fans to push the smoke out of the training building and how to use a saw in our roof simulator. 🚒 Special thank you to Captains Rusin and Leising for leading another great night of hands-on training. 💪🏻

This month MTFD welcomed a new probationary member, Marci DeMartinis! Marci has years of experience as an emergency room nurse that we are glad to have on EMS calls! We are excited to have her on the MTFD team!

If helping your family, friends, and neighbors is something that excites you too, we would love to talk to you about the opportunities at Main-Transit!

We remember those who bravely ran toward danger and everyone else who was affected. Even twenty five years will not dull the events of that day.
