Our Westinghouse Arts Academy students explored how art tells stories during a visit to the Carnegie Museum of Art. Guided by a docent, students toured the exhibition “if the world we…,” encountering cultural artifacts connected to Pittsburgh and places around the world.

During a seated experience within the exhibition, students considered the artist’s choices in staging, lighting, textiles, and design. They reflected on how these elements shaped their experience, what the artist might be communicating, and how artistic choices can convey culture, identity, and a sense of place.

Following the tour, students gathered in small groups in the main lobby to respond to prompts, share observations, and connect their experiences to their own creative work.

Today, Westinghouse Arts Academy students participated in the kickoff event for Pittsburgh’s Día de los Mu***os celebrations at Arts Landing and the Kara Family Lobby at the Greer Cabaret in Downtown Pittsburgh’s Cultural District! 💀🌼🎨

Día de los Mu***os is a celebration of life, remembrance, and the enduring connections between loved ones. We’re proud to see our students engage with cultural traditions and experience how the arts bring communities together.

All students are required to participate in LIVE, SYNCHRONOUS instruction and follow the virtual bell schedule below.

WAA has experienced a significant increase in cold and flu-like illnesses throughout our school community. The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priorities. As a proactive measure, we have hired a professional cleaning company to thoroughly clean and disinfect our entire school building.

Virtual Bell Schedule
Class Period Time
Advisory 7:50 AM – 8:00 AM
Period 1 8:00 AM – 8:35 AM
Period 2 8:40 AM – 9:05 AM
Period 3 9:10 AM – 9:45 AM
Period 4 9:50 AM – 10:25 AM
Period 5 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Student Dismissal 11:00 AM

Students are expected to:
- Log into Advisory and every scheduled live class on time.
- Actively participate in teacher-led instruction.
- Complete all assignments provided by their teachers.
- Follow WAA's regular academic and behavioral expectations while online.
- Contact their teachers immediately if they experience technology or internet connectivity problems.

Simply completing assignments does *not* replace the requirement to attend live instruction.
