Objects from Hagley’s collections have traveled across the globe 🌎 One of our most unconventional objects is currently on view at the LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art .

It's a model of inventor Frances Gabe’s (1915-2016) Self-Cleaning House. Her ambitious design incorporated 68 inventions intended to reduce housework, including sprinklers that washed and rinsed each room and a closet that cleaned clothes while they hung inside.

Gabe's model is featured in "Home of the Future, 1925–1985: Designing Domestic Utopias," an exhibition exploring how Americans imagined the home of tomorrow—from self-cleaning kitchens and push-button appliances to space-age living and early computers.

We’re thrilled to collaborate with LACMA and share Gabe's story of creativity and innovation with new audiences at one of the nation’s leading art museums.

This Saturday, October 10, we’re dissecting seeds and nuts to discover how a tiny things can transform into something nutritious to eat near the beautiful E. I. du Pont Garden.

Those living a bougie lifestyle today would have been called yuppies in the 1980s. So what can the rise of the yuppie culture tell us about the America we live in today?

Join us on Thursday, October 8, at 7 p.m. for a free Author Talk with Dylan Gottlieb, author of "Yuppies: The Bankers, Lawyers, Joggers, and Gourmands Who Conquered New York."

Gottlieb explores 1980s New York, from Wall Street and changing workplaces to fitness, food and consumer culture—and the lasting influence of the era.

At Hagley, you can see the story of American manufacturing in the place where thousands of people worked, to produce a product that was integral to the growth of our nation.

To feel like you're living in the Gilded Age, you don't have to travel to Rhode Island or even New York. Just take a day trip to the Brandywine Valley and follow the story of the du Pont family, whose American Dream began in a black gunpowder factory along the Brandywine.
