Happy Delaware Archaeology Month!

Archaeology is the scientific study of humans' past through material culture, including artifacts, architecture, and more. While many people may view parks as natural resource management, we have just as much of a hand in cultural resource management!

Archaeology surrounds us daily, and state parks are a great way to interact with history! Bellevue is home to many distinct historic structures and other archaeological evidence, including artifacts and oral histories. It is thanks to Parks staff like our Cultural Resources Unit that we have preserved and maintained so much history over the last 50 years at Bellevue.

There are many ways you can help in preserving our heritage, but the most important is to leave things where you find them!

Leave no trace doesn't just apply to our natural elements. It is crucial to leave items where they are found so that context and surrounding organic matter can be analyzed to better understand the object.

If you happen to find something here at Bellevue, be sure to tell a staff member! In fact, we have a Google Form for artifact sightings! Just fill it out, and a staff member will follow up!
