Talking with young people about prescription medication safety is an important part of prevention.

Children and teens may not always understand that prescription medications can be harmful when taken incorrectly or without medical guidance. That's why having conversations early and often matters.

Ask questions, listen without judgment and remind young people that prescription medications should never be shared, even with friends or family members.

Talk. Track. Secure. encourages families to build healthy habits through communication, awareness and safe medication storage.

You don't need to have all the answers to start a meaningful conversation. You just need to be willing to have one.

Sarah reflects, “One of the first lessons I learned in my recovery is that I need people who are like me, who are struggling with the same things I’m struggling with, so that I know I’m not alone. There are people out there who are exactly like me.” Join us at weareworthwhile.org to read Sarah’s story.

You are not alone. Recovery from alcohol, cannabis, opioid, or other drug use is in reach. Call or text 802.234.1550 to talk with a peer in recovery.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day, a time to honor the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across the country.

It's also an opportunity to recognize that Indigenous communities are not just part of our history. They are an important part of our present and future.

Take some time today to learn about Indigenous cultures, listen to Indigenous voices, and reflect on the importance of preserving traditions and honoring the communities who have called this land home for generations.

Got a gift exchange activity coming up this holiday season, like a Yankee swap or white elephant?

Think about avoiding alcoholic gifts, since you don’t know if the person who gets the gift might be in recovery or avoiding alcohol for other reasons.

Make it fun with a gift for all like an ornament, a hot chocolate kit, or a set of cooking spices.

The words we use can make a difference in whether someone feels judged or supported.

Stigma around substance use and mental health can create barriers to getting help. Using respectful, person-first language is one simple way we can help change that.

Instead of labels, we can choose words that recognize the person first.

Our words matter because people matter.

Peer pressure can be tough, but having a plan can help young people feel more confident when they find themselves in an uncomfortable situation.

Parents and caregivers can help by talking through situations before they happen. Practice different ways to say no, discuss how to leave a situation involving alcohol or other drugs, and make sure your child knows they can always call or text you for help.

These conversations don't have to be complicated. Helping young people think ahead gives them tools they can use when they need them.
