🎒 Back to school transitions can be exciting—but they can also feel overwhelming for children with autism and their caregivers.
Here are a few ways to make the transition a little smoother:
✨ Start practicing the morning and bedtime routine early.
✨ Use a visual schedule to show what the school day will look like.
✨ Visit the school, classroom, or bus stop ahead of time when possible.
✨ Share your child’s communication style, sensory needs, and calming strategies with their teacher.
✨ Allow extra time to decompress after school.
✨ Celebrate small wins—adjusting to a new routine takes time!
Most importantly, give yourself and your child grace. A successful transition doesn’t have to happen overnight. 💙
