Today Fire Explorers Toured the New Castle 911 Communications Center. Explorers were exposed too and educated on the advanced technology of 911 dispatching and operations for emergencies including Fire, EMS and Police.
Wilmington Fire Department's Fire/Emergency Services Explorer Program Training is accomplished through live training evolutions and through classroom lectures.
The Explorer Program provides young men and women from the City of Wilmington, ages 14 through 20, with an up close, hands on experience of the fire service. Explorers are responsible for the operation of the post and are advised by the officers and firefighters of the Wilmington Fire Department. WFD Explorers trained with Engine 6 B Platoon on master stream operations.

Today the Explorers practiced hoseline advancement with Engine 6 B Platoon. Explorers deployed at 1.75” handline into a dwelling to either the 2nd floor or the basement.

At today’s meeting of the WFD Explorers, members were introduced to Truck Conpany operations by the members of Ladder 1 and Ladder 2 D Platoon. After a quick tour around both apparatus, the Explorers were allowed to climb the aerial on Ladder 2.

Today Wilmington Fire Explorers completed the Physical Agility Test required to be completed by all future aspiring Wilmington Firefighters during the hiring process. The course consists of completing skill stations that simulate Firefighter daily tasks. Explorers demonstrated physical fitness, determination all while gaining experience to prepare for future Physical Agility Test for Fire Departments they may pursue.

The Wilmington Fire Department Explorers will kick off their 2025-2026 session on Saturday September 20, 2025 at 9 am, Fire Headquarters, 22 South Heald Street. If you are between the ages of 14-20 and are interested in learning about what it's like to be a firefighter or EMT; come to our first meeting to learn what it's all about. Meet the post staff as well as some current Explorers. Meetings are held typically every other Saturday during the school year from 9 am to 11 am. If you are under 18, a parent must also accompany you to sign release forms.

On Saturday, April 26th, Explorer Post 100 held it's last meeting of the school year. The Explorers were treated to tour of Fireboat 7 followed by a ride and demonstration of the boat's capabilities. Thanks to Battalion Chief Khairzada and the crew of Engine 2 C Platoon for conducting the tour and demonstration!

This week, the members of the WFD Explorers learned about the breathing apparatus used by the Wilmington Fire Department. After familiarization, they practiced some donning and doffing drills.

At today’s Explorer meeting, the WFD Explorers practiced escape and self survival techniques under the guidance of Lt Woodard and Firefighter Colon. Fire department ground ladders have rungs that are 14 inches apart. With proper technique, a firefighter can crawl through the rungs. This helps build confidence and skill. Thanks to Engine 1 C Platoon for helping with the training.

This week, the Explorers of WFD Post 100 practiced search techniques. Led by Capt Jordan, Lt Woodard, and Firefighter Colon, the Explorers practiced searching smoke filled areas for trapped victims.
