Libraries do more than provide books—they create opportunities, build skills, and help transform lives. In our latest newsletter, we highlight new national efforts to expand access to prison libraries and why these services matter for education, reentry, and stronger communities.
This important work reflects a growing recognition that access to information is essential for everyone, everywhere.

Please note: The Wilmington and North Wilmington Public Libraries are NOT affected by these summer hour changes. Patrons are encouraged to check directly with their local branch for the most current hours.
Due to budget reductions for Fiscal Year 2027, New Castle County Libraries will be implementing temporary changes to library operating hours beginning July 1, 2026.
From July 1 through September 7, all New Castle County Libraries will operate on Summer Hours and will be closed on Sundays. Beginning September 8, some branches will have reduced Friday and Sunday hours.
These changes were designed to minimize impacts while preserving core library services for our community.
