The best preschool classrooms are places where learning doesn't feel like a chore, and a great teacher is the reason why.

We're hiring a Lead Teacher for our new state-funded preschool classroom — someone who knows how to bring the right mix of energy, patience, and love for the work to a room full of bright and curious three- and four-year-olds.

If this sounds like the kind of role you've been looking for, you'll need an ECE degree, at least two years of experience teaching preschoolers, and a working knowledge of Teaching Strategies GOLD.

Where Summer Days Are Anything but Boring 06/01/2026

If you’re a parent, you’ve probably been thinking about summer break for weeks. There’s a lot to figure out, especially if you’re working and need a full-day option for the kids.

Our Summer Enrichment Program is now enrolling, and it could be just what you’re looking for. The link below has everything you need to know.

Where Summer Days Are Anything but Boring Summer's almost here, and for kids it means freedom from homework, early alarms, and rushing out the door to catch the bus. For parents, it's a little more complicated than that. Between mid-June and late August, there's a long stretch of open time to fill — along with the very real concern that y...

We're opening a new state-funded preschool classroom at Neighborhood House, and we're looking for a Lead Teacher to help shape it from day one.

This is a full-time, year-round role for an experienced early childhood educator who's ready to help a classroom full of preschoolers get ready for kindergarten and beyond.

If you have an ECE degree, at least two years of preschool teaching under your belt, and experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD, we'd love to hear from you.

Ask a parent what they want out of summer for their kids and you'll hear some version of the same thing: keep them learning, keep them moving, keep them around good people, and please, keep them off screens as much as possible.

That's the whole idea behind our Summer Enrichment Program, where we blend field trips, swimming, music, sports, activity clubs, and academic enrichment into an experience built for kids and loved by parents.

Curious about the details? It's an eight-week program for 5- to 12-year-olds that runs from June 22 to August 14, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

If you've got a child in that age range, call Jazmine at 302.658.5404, ext. 135, to get them signed up.

A lot of us treat rest like it's something we have to earn. We push through and finish our to-do lists, all while telling ourselves we'll slow down at some point. But that day never comes, and running on empty starts to feel normal.

But what if we have it backwards? What if rest isn't the reward at the end of the work, but what makes the work, and everything else we do, possible? Turns out, it is. Rest is foundational to staying well, to feeling like yourself.

That's especially true for your mental health, where rest can be the difference between coping and crumbling. When it's hard to slow down, remember: rest is not a luxury, it's how you keep going.

The countdown is on.

In just a couple weeks, school will be out and a familiar refrain will start echoing through the house: "I'm bored. There's nothing to do."

They won't be bored with us.

Our Summer Enrichment Program is now enrolling. From weekly field trips and swimming to music, sports, and activity clubs, we've built a full schedule that keeps kids engaged all summer long.

Academic enrichment is woven in too, so the summer slide doesn't stand a chance.

The program runs June 22 through August 14, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM — and it's open to kids ages 5 to 12.

Call Jazmine at 302.658.5404, ext. 135, to enroll your child. And scroll through the pics to see what summer at Neighborhood House looks like.

Standing tall and sticking together. These three make it look easy, but what's happening here matters more than you might think.

The social skills children develop at this age — sharing, cooperating, looking out for each other — become the building blocks for how they navigate the world.

That's what makes early childhood education so powerful. Learning the ABCs and 123s is essential, but so is learning how to be a good friend.

When someone you love is struggling with their mental health, the instinct is to fix it, to take the pain away. It's an understandable response. We don't want our friends or family members to suffer.

But most of the time, what they need is a reminder that you care. A text. A phone call. A meal. Sitting with them while they talk. None of it requires a degree in counseling, just your willingness to reach out.

On our worst days, it's not advice that gets us through. It's company — people who surround us with love and support. That's something all of us can give.

Earlier this month, the Neighborhood House Board of Directors appointed Jeffrey E. Benatti as Interim Executive Director.

Jeff brings more than three decades of nonprofit leadership experience to the role, including 33 years as Executive Director of New Castle County Head Start, Inc., where he led the agency to be ranked in the top 10% of Head Start programs nationwide.

Over the last few years, Jeff has remained actively engaged in the community through board service with Neighborhood House, Read Aloud Delaware, and the Latin American Community Center.

We also extend our deep gratitude to outgoing Executive Director Alison Windle, who served Neighborhood House for 11 years. Under her leadership, we were able to continue our longstanding mission of empowering children and families.

Is a Homebuyer Education Seminar Worth Your Time? 05/19/2026

Is a homebuyer education seminar actually worth two hours of your time?

When we asked our housing counselor Renee White to tell us more about what makes these seminars so valuable, she didn't hesitate. It's the quality of the information participants receive, and how it changes the way they think about what's possible.

Last year, more than 70 people came through our seminars. Sixteen of them went on to purchase homes. They got there by learning what it takes to become a homeowner, from getting qualified for a mortgage to finding programs that can help lower out-of-pocket costs.

Our next Homebuyer Education Seminar is this Thursday, May 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. It's on Zoom, so you can tune in from the comfort of your couch or kitchen table.

As always, there's no cost to attend, but what you'll learn could save you thousands.

Check the comments for the link to RSVP.

Is a Homebuyer Education Seminar Worth Your Time? We get it — you're busy. Between work, family, and other commitments, you might feel like sitting through a 2-hour seminar isn't the best use of your time. Life doesn't slow down just because you're thinking about buying a house. But ask our Housing Administrator Renee White and she'll tell you: t...
