Heavy rain is forecast in our area this weekend, and anywhere it rains, it can flood. If you come across floodwaters on roads or sidewalks, turn around don’t drown!
🚗 Driving thru 6 inches of standing water can cause vehicles to lose control & stall
📏 12 inches of water is enough to make most small vehicles float
🛑 Don't drive through floodwater or barricades

Last week, we had the honor of hosting NC Emergency Management and first responders from across the state for a hurricane preparedness symposium in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Emergency management professionals joined local and state partners to explore and discuss pre-storm planning, risk communication, operation coordination and community resilience practices. Thank you to these dedicated teams who work to keep our community !

Two quick things about fire:

1. See smoke? You may be seeing drifts from an active wildfire in Marion County (NE SC). Don't be alarmed. Just be aware and mindful of your surroundings. Air quality will be slightly degraded while the haze persists, so take precautions for those with respiratory conditions.

2. This is a good time to remind everyone that the local burn ban in still in effect. This applies to all open burns in the county, including those within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. Make Smokey proud, help prevent fires, and keep our community safe.
