Public Servant and Civil Rights Advocate

07/23/2025

Friends,

I am writing to you today with an important update regarding my exploratory campaign for Attorney General of Delaware. As you know, the past few months have been incredibly productive, and I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and encouragement you have shown. Your belief in our vision for a more just and equitable legal system has been truly inspiring, and together, we've built a strong foundation.

After careful consideration and much reflection, I have made the difficult decision to suspend our exploratory campaign at this time. This decision stems from my unwavering commitment to my current role as a civil rights attorney. The work we do is vital, and it demands my full and undivided attention, particularly as we navigate several critical cases. Given the incumbent Attorney General's announcement of her intention to campaign for a third term, I want to ensure there is no perceived conflict of interest as I continue my work advocating for civil rights, which often finds me at odds with her office. Maintaining the highest ethical standards and avoiding any appearance of impropriety is paramount to me, both personally and professionally.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you for your generous financial contributions, your invaluable advice, and your tireless dedication. Your support has been the driving force behind the success of this exploratory phase, and I am truly humbled by your commitment.

While fundraising efforts will pause for now, please know that this is not a final decision regarding a future 2026 campaign. I anticipate taking a leave of absence from my current role in early 2026, at which point I will make a definitive decision about whether to resume this important endeavor. Stay tuned.

Thank you again for everything.

Dwayne

Short Answer: “Democratic titans of Delaware politics from Wilmington who all have received generous campaign donations from developers Robert and Christopher Buccini, co-founders of Buccini Pollin Group.”

Why is Delaware pursuing $3M lease for DOJ from prominent developer? Attorney General Kathy Jennings says she abandoned the idea she championed last year, but the money remains in the state’s proposed budget.

Young Democrats challenge longtime incumbents as party grapples with generational divide | CNN Politics 05/01/2025

Delaware has the oldest Attorney General in the country. This isn't about age--its about passing the torch to a new generation ready to take on the challenges ahead. The next generation is ready to lead, and we can't afford to keep doing things the same way.

Young Democrats challenge longtime incumbents as party grapples with generational divide | CNN Politics There is a growing wave of young Democrats who have launched bids to shake up the party’s ranks by ousting incumbent House members in deep blue seats. They see voter frustrations with Democrats’ ineffective response to President Donald Trump’s actions as a mandate to remake the party.

DOJ announces indictment for suspended Wilmington Police Officer in use of force case - State of Delaware News 04/24/2025

With friends like these…

“Sgt. Spearman responded by slapping the victim in the face, knocking her upper body and head to the ground.”

But you have to get to the end of the press release to understand the violation of public trust. Somebody please make this press release make sense?! DOJ doesn’t bend over backwards to justify violence committed by anyone other than police. But, here, let’s include all the mitigating factors in the indictment press release. 🙄

Delaware cop charged with assault at party. Lawsuit says it was homophobic violence 04/22/2025

Attorney General’s Office said Caserta wasn’t charged with a hate crime because the evidence shows that “the defendant appeared to be motivated by his belief that the victim was making romantic or sexual advances toward his child, rather than the victim’s sexual orientation.” This is precisely the gay panic defense Rep. Eric Morrison outlawed last session. Hate is often fueled by fear. DOJ's Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust is broken.

Undocumented drivers' privacy bill passes committee, despite DOJ concerns 04/10/2025

I'd be proud to defend the DMV in federal court on this issue.
Rep. Sean M. Lynn is right: “Doing the right thing sometimes means that you have a target on your back.”
