🏡 On Saturday, May 30, 2026, residents from across Wilmington and beyond gathered for a First-Time Homebuyers Class hosted by Councilwoman Yolanda McCoy in partnership with Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware, Inc.

Held at the MSK Community Center, attendees received valuable information and practical guidance from a team of industry professionals, including representatives from Prosperity Mortgage, Innovate Real Estate, EXP Realty, HUD, and A-Pro Home Inspection. From understanding credit and financing options to navigating inspections, closing costs, and the overall homebuying journey, participants walked away with a wealth of knowledge and direct connections to trusted experts who can continue to support them every step of the way.

Homeownership remains one of the most powerful tools for building generational wealth, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating long-term stability for families. Councilwoman McCoy is committed to ensuring residents have access to the resources, education, and opportunities needed to turn the dream of homeownership into a reality.

On Friday evening, May 29, 2026, At-Large Councilman Alexander D. Hackett was honored to serve as the commencement speaker for Great Oaks Charter School - Wilmington Class of 2026 graduation ceremony at the Community Education Building in Wilmington, sharing a message of resilience, determination, and believing in yourself as students prepared to begin their next chapter.

Standing before students, families, educators, and loved ones, Councilman Hackett delivered a message rooted in perseverance, vision, and self-belief. He reminded graduates that while each of their journeys has been different, they all arrived at this moment because they refused to give up.

"Some of you didn't think you would make it here today. Some of you didn't think you would pass that last test. But you made it. You never gave up and that's what it's all about."

Drawing from his own life experiences, Councilman Hackett encouraged students to embrace the unknown, trust the process, and never allow others to distract them from their purpose.

"The world will test you. The world will knock you down. But you are prepared. You are worthy. And you are enough."

As diplomas were awarded and proud families cheered from the audience, the evening served as a powerful reminder that every graduate represents a story of determination, resilience, and hope for the future.

Congratulations to the Great Oaks Charter School Class of 2026. Wilmington celebrates your accomplishments today and looks forward to the impact you will make tomorrow. Your journey is just beginning, and our community is cheering you on every step of the way.
