Most of the work that keeps drinking water safe happens quietly in the background. Water is routinely treated, tested and monitored to meet strict safety standards. Equipment is checked, systems are maintained, and data is scrutinized so any potential issues can be addressed early.
Behind the scenes, water professionals are doing this work so the water at your tap is safe and reliable.

In celebration of Earth Day 2026 and this year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” Veolia in Delaware was proud to partner with the Delaware Nature Society as a 2026 Corporate Sponsor! 🌎🌱

Our Veolia team rolled up their sleeves and spent a warm morning on the Ashland floodplain planting and watering trees. In just a few hours, we were able to plant 50 trees, an impressive accomplishment that supports cleaner air, healthier waterways, and more resilient ecosystems.

Earth Day is a powerful reminder that collective action drives real change. In embracing sustainable habits, we all have a role to play. Thank you to our volunteers for their commitment, and to Delaware Nature Society for the continued partnership in making a lasting environmental impact across our communities.

🚧 Hydrant Flushing Update – Week of April 20, 2026 🚧

Crews will continue our Spring Water Main and Hydrant Maintenance program this week, with flushing moving into additional neighborhoods. This work helps maintain high-quality drinking water and reliable fire protection.

📍 Flushing continues in the following areas:

* Brandywine
* New Castle
* Red Lion
* White Clay Creek
* Pecander
* Newark

What to Expect:
You may experience temporary water discoloration or reduced water pressure during flushing activities. Flushing will take place between 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day.

If discoloration occurs, please run your cold water tap until it runs clear before use.

Avoid doing laundry during flushing hours to prevent staining.

Why Do We Flush:
Remove Sediment and Deposits: Over time, naturally occurring minerals, rust, and sediment accumulate in water pipes. Flushing removes these materials that settle at the bottom of the pipes, preventing buildup that could affect water quality.

Maintain Water Quality: Flushing helps ensure fresh water circulates throughout the entire distribution system.
Test System Performance: The process allows Veolia to verify that hydrants are functioning properly, check water pressure levels, and identify any issues with valves or the distribution system.

Ensure Fire Protection: Flushing confirms that hydrants are operational and can deliver adequate water flow and pressure needed for firefighting purposes in emergencies.

Regular hydrant flushing is a proactive maintenance practice that protects public health and ensures the water distribution system operates efficiently and reliably.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to maintain the quality and reliability of your water service. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service team at 800-668-0856
