Today we highlight the close relationship between the United States and the Republic of Ireland. Use our website search function (Upright corner, Select country and Ireland) to see the many memorials located in Ireland -mostly Isolated Burials (ISOBs) from most of America's conflicts: American Civil War; Spanish-American War; WW1: WW2; Kore and Vietnam. Ireland also has memorials remembering all their war dead in both Korea and Vietnam.

Today we remember the October 20, 1944 landings at Leyte Gulf, Philippines when General MacArthur proclaimed "I have returned. Memorials in Dulag, Philippines remembers the 96th "Deadeyes" Division landing at Blue Beach and the capture of Hill 120, The Blue Beach Landings and the Unknown Soldiers of the battle.

Today we remember First Lieutenant Quentin Roosevelt, son of President Theodore Roosevelt, a pilot in the 95th Aero Squadron 1st Pursuit Group, who was shot down on July 14, 1918 behind enemy lines near the rural French village of Chamery, near Reims.

He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial next to his brother Theodore Roosevelt Jr.

The 33rd US Infantry Division participated in the Australian led Battle of Hamel on July 4, 1918. Corporal Thomas Pope, 131st Infantry Regiment was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions that day. See our website for more on this battle:

While the American military did not particpate in the 1916 Battle of the Somme which began on July 1, 1916, many individual Americans were involved in famous battle. One was Wilfred (Wilfrid) Michaud of Michigan who served with the French Foreign Legion and was killed in action on July 5, 1916. He is now buried in an Isolated Burial (ISOB) in French National Cemetery of Dompierre Becquincourt (Necropole Nationale de Dompierre Becquincourt) located in Dompierre -Becquincourt, France.

Michaud is also remembered on the American Volunteer Monument located in Paris - Place des Etats Unis. This memorial remembers the many Americans who served in France prior to the US entry into WW1.

Today we remember the Battle of Okinawa (Operation Iceberg) during the 80th Anniversary of the battle. Today is the 80th Anniversary of the loss of Colonel Edwin May, commander of the 383rd Infantry Regiment of the 96th Infantry Divsion. A memorial remembers him and is located next to the memorials to two other senior leaders killed in June 1945 during the battle: Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar Buckner, Commander 10th Army & Brigadier General Claudius Easley, Assistant Division Commander of the 96th "Deadeye" Division.

On this Memorial Day, we ask you to look at one of the over 4000 memorials we have listed at almost 3000 different locations commemorating over 30,000 Americans.

We will share one of the many memorials with you today, that we are in the process of updating:

The Anstey St. George’s Church includes a beautiful stained glass window remembering the 398th Bomber Group (B-17) that operated out of the nearby Nuthampstead Airfield during WW2. We recently discovered that the butterflies in the windows include the names of those who did not return home after the war- we are still in the process of adding the names of the fallen, but you can see this beautiful memorial at our website here:

Today we remember 80th Anniversary of Liberation celebrations in Czechia.

We have over 4000 Memorials at over 3000 locations remembering many units and over 30,000 individuals located in many different countries.

One of these memorials is located in the tiny micro-state of the Republic of San Marino remembering two brothers, born in San Marino who later immigrated to the US - the Berardi brothers, Roberto and Leonello. Both served in the US Army in WW2 and both were killed in action and are buried in American Cemeteries in Europe.

Robert served with the 407th Infantry Regiment of the 102nd Infantry Divsion. He was KIA on February 22,1945 during Operation Gr***de while fighting in Germany in the Roer River crossings. He is buried in The Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten.

His younger brother Leonello (Nello) served in the 7th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division and was KIA in Italy during Operation Diadem (Cassino) on May 29, 2944. Nello is buried in the Sicily-Rome Cemetery in Anzio, Italy.

Both are remembered with a beautiful cenotaph in their family plot in San Marino.
