gets real about something every middle schooler faces: navigating the weight of other people’s opinions and perspectives

It’s tough. Those opinions hit different when you’re still figuring out who you are. But Blake shares the real solution: a strong support system. Teachers who intentionally create spaces and activities where students feel safe to be themselves? That changes everything.

When young people have adults and peers who genuinely support them, they stop shrinking to fit in and start showing up as their authentic selves. That’s the shift that matters.

explains that “Failure is Dope” isn’t just a mindset, it’s a process.

The mindset shifts how you see setbacks. The process is what you actually go through: experiencing the failures, learning the hard lessons, and letting that pressure push you to grow. Blake breaks it down perfectly—failure will test you, but that’s where the real transformation happens ✨

The future is loud and it’s beautiful. 🎤💛 Spent time at Lewis Dual Language Elementary two weeks ago talking about empowerment, representation, and what it means to be heard. These students didn’t just listen—they marched, they chanted, they showed up with signs and smiles. This is what advocacy looks like when we start young: confident, joyful, and unapologetically powerful.

Hearing from families and connecting with educators are key components to school improvement. This may have been the first tour but it won’t be the last! Let’s keep the collaboration going!

Last week, I spent Thursday with phenomenal educators across the state representing all layers of the education ecosystem at the data round table hosted by the Rodel Foundation. It is moments like this when I am energized and reminded that change can overcome complacency, innovation can outpace old systems and collaboration can overwhelm divisiveness.

We’re laying out a Delaware First agenda, starting with education.

In my State of the State, I laid our priorities to double down on historic investments in our classrooms, from early childhood education to tackling our literacy emergency.

We’re investing in our kids, backing our educators, and delivering real results for Delaware families.

Delaware is considering repairs to the foundation of how it funds public schools.

The state group charged with overhauling that formula got its first chance to brief lawmakers on Jan. 21 after meeting for more than a year. Familiar faces from the Public Education Funding Commission lined the House chamber, while Secretary of Education Cindy Marten and school district leaders previewed the pitch to come.

The almost two-hour hearing brought calm questioning from both sides of the aisle, as lawmakers caught up with the "hybrid” framework commission members approved by the end of 2025.

"The important limitation to note about our current system is that the only demographic characteristics that it currently recognizes is grade level and special education status," said Colonial schools COO and CFO Emily Falcon, addressing the joint finance committee.
