Good news! The Fall 2026 issue of The Asbury Journal is here!

This newest issue features a fascinating piece of Asbury history that you may have never heard before!

During the 1940s, Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary welcomed Japanese American students who had been held in internment camps across the United States. This little-known chapter of our history reflects, in large part, the opposition of Dr. E. Stanley Jones to the internment camps.

The stories of these men and women are both fascinating and inspiring, and we're excited to share them with you!

You can explore the full issue of The Asbury Journal here!

People sometimes ask, ā€œWhat is the oldest document in Asbury’s Archives?ā€

It happens to be this cuneiform tablet dated to 2071 BC, over 4,000 years old!

It is basically a receipt for a goat and some sheep, but considering it dates to the time of Abraham, this little tablet is quite a treasure.

šŸ“š LAST CHANCE FOR BOOKS! šŸ“š

Now is the time to check out the Personal Book Sale shelf in the library!

The shelf is stocked with books being sold by Asbury students, staff, alumni, and community members—and the entire shelf will be purged next week, during the first week of October.

So if you’ve been meaning to browse, don’t wait! Stop by the library, take a look, and grab a few books before they’re gone. You might find something you didn’t even know you needed! šŸ“–

šŸ’µ Purchasing a book? Place your cash in the envelope provided and bring it to the HelpDesk.

Come give these books a new home before the shelf gets cleared!

Here’s a fun aerial view of Asbury Theological Seminary from 1972—a campus that looks quite a bit different from the one we know today!

This was before any of the Beeson-gifted buildings were constructed, and the old women’s dorm, Ely-Mack, still stood behind Estes Chapel. Married student housing at Bettie Morrison was still there, and—perhaps most surprising—the Seminary even had tennis courts!

Look along the bottom edge of the photo and you can also spot the trailer park, where many Seminary students and their families lived at the time. It’s a fascinating little snapshot of Asbury life more than 50 years ago!

Here is a link to a video clip that comes from a home movie we recently had digitized from the collection of Asbury’s third president, Frank Stanger (1962–1982). He graduated from Asbury in 1934, and his wife, Mardelle, graduated in 1935. The two were married in 1937 by none other than Asbury’s first president, H. C. Morrison (1923–1942). This clip shows the young bride and groom in 1937, with Morrison joining them in the shot.
