Let’s congratulate Firefighter Weaver on his recent promotion to Master Firefighter. He has successfully completed all training to operate every vehicle in our fleet. Chief Enoch presented his shield, early yesterday morning. Countless hours of training from him and his crew was done to reach this goal. We are excited to see Master Firefighter Weaver behind the wheel.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Wilson Fire/Rescue Services joins the fire service community in mourning the tragic loss of Durham Firefighter Andrew Brokes, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during the early morning hours of Thursday, October 8, 2026.

Firefighter Brokes courageously answered the call to serve, placing the lives and safety of others above his own while searching for victims inside a burning building in Durham, North Carolina. His final act of service reflects the very heart of what it means to be a firefighter—selflessness, bravery, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others.

To the Brokes family, the Durham Fire Department, and all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him, please know that our hearts are with you. Your loss is felt far beyond your department, extending throughout the entire fire service family.

Rest easy, Brother. We have it from here. 🖤❤️

What a good day to be great. Engine 1 B Shift and CRR visited the library to read a few good books. Today fire safety message is to charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, disc, floor, or outside on concrete or asphalt. Beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat. Where will we go next. Thanks for the invite Wilson County Public Library. Day #2 of Fire Prevention Week with Engine #2. We had an awesome time discussing sounds of Fire Safety and how loud sounds may be scary but are helpful, such as the sound of a Smoke alarm. These future leaders had the opportunity to see a firefighter in his gear and explore the inside of a fire engine. We can’t say thank you enough to the wonderful staff for the invite. Guess where we will be next? (Photo credit Captain Sara Blizzard)
