Winburne Fire Company Number One Announces $232,786.36 in Grant Awards and Continued Investment in Our Community
Strengthening firefighter safety, emergency response, and community services
WINBURNE, PA β September 24, 2026 β Winburne Fire Company Number One is proud to announce a series of grant awards and equipment investments that will strengthen our ability to protect our members and serve our community. Through federal and state grant programs, charitable foundation support, and local financial partnerships, our organization continues to address critical equipment needs, improve community facilities, and expand emergency response capabilities.
Assistance to Firefighters Grant β $213,066.00
Winburne Fire Company Number One has been awarded $213,066.00 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, funded by FEMA within the Department of Homeland Security. The funds will be used to purchase 40 sets of turnout gear, with a total project cost of $223,720.00, including the required local match of $10,654.00.
Over the past three years, our department has welcomed 42 new members, creating a significant financial challenge in providing proper turnout gear for our growing membership. While the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of Bethpage, New York, helped provide gear for some members, additional equipment was still needed. This award will help us address that need and ensure our firefighters have the protective equipment necessary to respond safely and effectively.
Unconventional Gas Well Grant β $4,000.00
Earlier this year, Winburne Fire Company Number One received $4,000.00 through the Unconventional Gas Well Grant Program, which was used to purchase 100 gallons of F-500 Encapsulator Agent.
F-500 is an advanced, fluorine-free fire suppression additive designed to enhance water's firefighting performance. According to the manufacturer, the product uses encapsulator technology and is intended for a variety of fire hazards, including Class A, B, C, and D fires, as well as lithium-ion battery applications. This investment provides our firefighters with an additional specialized resource to support fire suppression and emergency preparedness.
Clearfield County Charitable Foundation β $3,500.00
The Fire Company also received $3,500.00 from the Clearfield County Charitable Foundation to upgrade our recreation building and community park.
Grant funds were used to purchase a new steam table, tables, and chairs, improving the facility's functionality, seating capacity, and overall usability. These improvements allow community members to use the facility for personal events, family gatherings, and other activities while supporting the Fire Company's ability to host dinners, breakfasts, and fundraising events that benefit our operations and the community park and recreation center.
Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner Grant β $12,220.36
Through the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance Service Grant Program, Winburne Fire Company Number One received $12,220.36, which was used to purchase a 26-foot enclosed trailer at a total cost of $15,248.30.
The trailer will initially be used to haul our side-by-side utility vehicle. In the future, we plan to utilize it as a multi-purpose firefighter rehabilitation center, canteen, and command post, providing additional support during emergency operations and community activities.
Brush Truck Acquisition and Debt Reduction
Winburne Fire Company Number One also obtained a loan through our local CNB Bank to purchase a brush truck for $22,000.00. The truck will be used to tow the enclosed trailer and will be equipped to support our response to brush fires, wildland incidents, and other emergencies requiring specialized vehicle capabilities.
The brush truck loan will be repaid using funds from the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance Service Grant Program, under the Debt Reduction Project, for the next five grant cycles.
We extend our appreciation to CNB Bank for providing the financing necessary to make this equipment purchase possible.
A Continued Commitment to Our Community
These grant awards and equipment investments represent an important step forward for Winburne Fire Company Number One. From equipping our growing membership with turnout gear to acquiring specialized firefighting resources, improving our recreation facility, and expanding our emergency response capabilities, we remain committed to serving our community and supporting the safety of our members.
We extend our sincere appreciation to:
