💡 John Handley High School junior Nevaeh Moreland has big dreams of becoming an electrician, and her hard work and dedication are getting noticed!

Earlier this week, local businesses came together to invest in Nevaeh's future, surprising her with an NEC 2020 codebook, a starter tool kit, safety gear, and other essential supplies to help jump-start her career in the electrical trades! 🔧💡

👏 A HUGE thank you to her teacher, Mr. Williams, who recognized Navaeh's potential and to the business partners who are helping turn her dreams into reality!
⚡ Capital Electric – Steve Duttera and Tyler Mason
⚡ Direct Electric USA, LLC – Roy “Buzzy” Horne and Jackie Miller
⚡ City Electric – Cliff Knupp, JHHS alumnus
⚡ Backwoods Country Girl Printing
⚡ Cherokee Electrical Service

This is what happens when education and community partnerships come together to create opportunities for students! ❤️ Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center

Have you had a chance to visit the Douglas School? We invite you to visit us soon to engage with the rich history and important context of this building in Wi******er!

📍 The Douglas School is located at 598 N. Kent Street in Wi******er, Virginia.
📅 The Douglas School Museum is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Museum is closed when WPS administrative offices are closed. You can stop by during open hours or schedule an appointment in advance by calling 540-667-4253. Evening and weekend visits can be accommodated with advance notice.

Douglas was the heart and center of the African American community of Wi******er and the surrounding areas during the days of segregation. Douglas operated as a school for Black students from 1927 to 1966, when schools were integrated in Wi******er.

The school was renovated and expanded in 2021 to house the WPS central office, community space, and museum honoring the history of Douglas.
