Smoke Alarm Safety - A message from the Fire Marshal's Office
Smoke alarms have been proven to save lives. It is recommended that smoke alarms be installed on every level of the house, inside every bedroom, and outside of each sleeping area. In the basement, smoke alarms should be installed at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the next level. Mount smoke alarms in the middle of the ceiling away from drafts created by fans or air ducts. Avoid placing smoke alarms too close to the kitchen stove and bathroom showers. Test your smoke alarms monthly and replace the batteries every 6 months. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years. If you are in need of a smoke alarm, please feel free to call our office and we can provide and install them for you.
