The Animas and San Juan Rivers have not reached their peak. If you are seeing rising floodwaters, evacuate now.

SHELTERS:
Shelter is open at McGee Park. Pets and livestock welcome; RVs ok too.

RIVER STATUS:
The Animas at Cedar Hill is over 11.85 feet (around 9000 cfs) and still rising. The San Juan is 14 feet and rising in Farmington, running close to 13000 cfs. The San Juan in Shiprock is expected to be over 23 feet and is already more than 23000 cfs.

Lake Nighthorse is NOT releasing in the Animas.
Navajo Dam is releasing 250 cfs to maintain operations, and it is only 54% full; there is plenty of storage and the dam is completely safe.

CLOSURES:
Road 6675 bridge closed (APS Bridge)
Road 371 closed at Murray/N36
Road 5500 is closed at Lee Acres
(550 at Bloomfield is NOT closed)

DRINKING WATER:
All local drinking water is safe to drink. The drinking water supply is clean and safe.

POWER OUTAGES:
There are under 500 outages in areas that are inundated, and power will remain off until floodwaters subside. Outage map: http://outage.fmtn.org:7576/

It seems that we have given away tens of thousands of sandbags, and our sandbagging locations may be empty.

DRONES:
We have helicopters in the air, if you fly drones, we have to ground our air support. DON'T FLY YOUR DRONES.

WATER QUALITY:
Sewer system breaches have made the water hazardous. Stay out of the water.

10/23/2026

SHARING: The San Juan County Office of Emergency Management is urging those along the river to evacuate now due to the river’s water level that will continue to increase.
The peak will not be until late tonight or tomorrow morning. McGee Park is set up to shelter people and their pets.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

Yá’át’ééh, shik’é. Sharing the proposed amendment to Legislation 0252-25 for community review. Council rules require amendments to be posted at least 24 hours before debate.

New visuals explain Legislative District 12 funding and responsibilities to support community understanding, transparency and accountability.

The district slide identifies Beclabito’s project as Road N5113. A follow-up will explain completed work and CPMD’s recommendation that the Chapter reallocate its regional broadband funding.

The proposed amendment seeks to restore funding for all seven chapters and clarify project allocations to help prevent future disputes.

DELEGATE DAILY BRIEF | October 12, 2026

Yá’át’ééh shik’é,

Recent chapter discussions highlighted housing needs, veterans’ resources, and legislative updates.

🏠 HOUSING & COMMUNITY PRIORITIES
At the Red Valley planning meeting, community members raised questions about the $1 million Triple R warehouse project while families remain on waiting lists for homes, bathroom additions, and renovations. With the prior housing funding window ending September 30, identifying new funding and potential partners remains a priority.

🇺🇸 NORTHERN AGENCY VETERANS
The delegate report addressed a funding reduction of more than 60 percent and efforts that restored much of the funding needed for eligible Northern Agency veterans. Additional Navajo Nation resources are still needed to address remaining needs.

📜 DINÉ STOLEN VALOR ACT
The report also included discussion of Legislation 0180-26, the Diné Stolen Valor Act, and the importance of protecting the integrity of military service. Supporting chapter resolution language and a community education one-pager will help communities review the proposal.

NEXT STEPS
• Identify housing funding opportunities and partners.
• Continue work to address remaining veterans’ funding needs.
• Support community review and discussion of Legislation 0180-26.

Ahéhee’ to the chapter members who shared their concerns and priorities. Community input guides the work ahead.
